He's the absolute worst. Never have I despised one of my team's announcers more than I do with King.

He's a hype man. He's harmless fun for me.

Yeah wtf. I always thought King was one of those guys who you love if he's calling for your team, and hate if he's another team's announcer.

I don't understand why people hate excitement and homerism from your basketball announcer. And the homerism isn't event Hawk like biased homerism, its just him getting overly excited about the Bulls doing well.

No one in sports is at Hawk's level, but I find Funk-King to be pretty big homers.

ffs, a team's local broadcasters are supposed to be homers. they're not catering to a national or even impartial audience. they're catering specifically to fans of the team they broadcast for and are employed by.

On a practice game, a game that didn't count, against a team that has D leaguers on the court. Calm down and quit yelling Stacey.

To boot, why did Thibs have starters out there?

Banedon has it right. King is harmless fun. His catch phrases are much too forced these days (really since probably his 2nd year announcing), but he still frequently adds entertainment. Funk, on the other hand, is the worst. He completely miss-calls plays 5+ times per game and then doesn't realize it until a good 30 seconds later. Drives me nuts. All that said, I'll usually watch the national broadcast when given the opportunity. I enjoy JVG, although I think a lot of people dislike him.

This isn't complimentary to Bulls fans

It really depends on what you mean by homer. I always say a local team's announcers should be like the guy that if you got a group of fans together would be the most rational one. They are definitely rooting for the team and they focus most of their commentary on that team, but they recognize the opponents strengths and weaknesses and don't get too high or too low as the game continues. They get upset with the referees occasionally, but they're not going on and on about calls every other game. Their initial reaction to a call might be a little biased to the team, but on replay they try to look at it with objective eyes and admit when their team gets a break along when they get a bad call against them.

There are a few announcers out there who act like the slightly drunk fan who refuse to give the opponents respect and tend to think that every 50/50 call has to go for them. From all I've heard, Heinsohn in Boston is a great example of this, although there are others. Some people might like that type of announcer, but I find it irritating to listen to even if you root for that team, and borderline unwatchable if you're neutral or rooting for the other team.

Funk is bad but I still generally like King. Long is also really good when he is interviewed as a guest on other sports shows. He's fun and is a positive guy so I like him in there. I wouldn't mind if they ditched funk but ultimately I'm ok with the broadcast team. They certainly aren't hampering my enjoyment of the games. Our best announcer is chuck swirsky.

I also will usually watch the national broadcast (and if you look at the schedule we are on national tv a ton this year). But that's only to hear the impression of our team from the national people and because the broadcast is way more professional than CSN. I loath JVG and his constant complaining and whining. Hubie Browns slow, deliberate and instructional style annoys the [expletive] out of me but he does seem like a really good guy. Kerr was good but that's over now. All the national play by play guys are pretty good in my opinion.

Anybody with the season ticket knows that the bulls team is far from the worst.

Gun to your head: Funk or Larivee?

I think I might choose the bullet

There is literally nothing Funk does better than Larivee

And yet Larivee is one of the most maddeningly annoying PBP guys in the industry

That's boring IMO

homerism is fun

where hawk fails is in that he's a [expletive] idiot

not that stacey is a rhodes scholar or something

I don't get this. Granted, I haven't really listened to him in years but he never bothered me when I did watch games he was doing.

funk is not only terrible, but also acts like a prick towards the other team every game. can't stand him.

Yeah he's the bad kind of homer for that very reason.

I was really hoping that Mcdermott and/or Mirotic would look a lot better than they do early. Doug especially looks bad. I dont see Thibs giving him snells minutes.

you're insane. mcdermott is going to be getting heavy rotational minutes pretty much immediately.

I'm not sure exactly how many minutes he should get or I want him to get. I want him to get the opportunity to struggle a bit and still be given chances. But he looks wild on offense his handles are bad and he doesn't seem to defend well. I expect him to look better and better as the season goes on but thibs doesn't have a long leash.

King does the same [expletive], which is why he's so detestable. I'll never forget the first time the Bulls played the Bobcats after they traded Tyrus. He couldn't wait to rip him and he spent the majority of the game just destroying the dude. Yes, he sucked at basketball but he was bad with the Bulls too, yet King never called him out when he was with the Bulls. Funk did the same thing with Ben Gordon (and continues to do it) whenever Gordon can somehow get on the court for whatever bad team he's on now.

If you like homer announcers, more power to you. Professionals are better -- Funk and King are just as detestable as Hawk is, as far as I'm concerned.

I remember when King went on the Dan Patrick Show after Rose tore his ACL against the Sixers. He said that the Bulls would rebound and that the injury wasn't a huge deal because the Bulls had a lot of heart and that they'd still win the series. Whoops. He's the captain of basketball stupid in this town. Meatballs are going to eat that Jimmy Jordan crap up for the entire year and then some.
