I'm surprised they haven't said anything (that I've seen) about Game 1's date. The second round is starting tomorrow night with Boston/Montreal, so there should be a some games on Friday. Is there a scheduling conflict in Colorado that prevents the NHL from giving a conclusive date?

I think this is more or less par for the course with the NHL. The beat writers are constantly being asked about schedules and they always have to say, "I don't know" and ask the league to release the schedules. It's part of the NHLs poor PR/marketing skills.

They will announce the Hawks schedule at the end of the Avs-Wild game tonight. I would guess a Friday start. Kentucky Derby is Saturday so they are doing the Habs-Canadiens game 2 early, so that rules out an Hawks Saturday day game.

How is playoff rest viewed in hockey? Is a layoff a bad thing for a team that was playing well, or is it a good thing to be able to get rest and health back?

depends on how the next series winds up.

Good timing, I just read this yesterday:

These are two of the best teams in the league, so whoever emerges from Wednesday night’s winner-take-all game will assume the role of Stanley Cup favorite.

Habs-Canadiens is a reliably fierce match, eh?

what a huge break. so we'll be advancing with st. louis/colorado/san jose already eliminated. suddenly the path to the cup is not looking so daunting.

And the Blackhawks won't play on night one of the NFL Draft (funny how the LA area teams will).

Not winning this series would be a huge disappointment.

Yeah, agreed. At the start of the season I said getting to the conference final would be a successful season to me coming off the cup win. That's definitely the case now.

Yeah. If they beat the Wild and then lose to the Kings or especially the Ducks in a hard fought 6 or 7 game series, you can't really complain, no matter how much it would suck. Losing to the Wild when you have more rest, home ice, and a healthy team going into the series would feel like a failure.

Norris finalists announced:

Keith, Chara, Weber.

Already have heard carping about "east coast bias" for Doughty and Vlasic not making the list, though nobody is saying Keith shouldn't have been there.

I honestly think Chara should not be a finalist, unless diving is somehow considered important for the Norris

Whoever the nameless scout is that ESPN was using for this thinks Chara should win:

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/10852139/colorado-avalanche-rookie-nathan-mackinnon-line-calder-trophy-espn-magazine

"He may be slowing down a little bit at age 37, but even at 80 or 90 percent of where he used to be, Chara can still impact the game in so many different ways. He deserves much of the credit for his team's success the past few seasons."
