I get that, but why were people questioning it?

 

Usually when a player has a non-traditional number not during spring training or the september call up period there's some special significance behind it.

 

Justin Berg is the only other Cub to wear #64

No real issue. It just seems like someone who made the major league team should get a "real" number instead of a "spring training" number.

Higher numbers are usually given to people not expected to stick.
