The Marlins made Jacob Turner available. They are looking for a 1B or 2B.

Would Vogelbach, Darwin Barney and Valbuena be enough?

Turner's stuff hasn't rebounded, has it? If he's going to be considered a back end of the rotation type, I'd honestly rather hold on to Vogelbach. Use him as a 2nd or 3rd piece to acquire more of a top end type.

If Turner's stuff is back though, he's an ideal guy to get obviously. I think he's more of a 90-91 type now though, without the control to be elite, pitching at that velo.

Yeah he's averaged 91.7 MPH on the fastball his 3 years as a MLB pitcher, maybe something like Barney and Szczur but that would be about it. Definitely wouldn't give up Vogelbach for him.

Barney is not cheap enough or young enough to interest them. They'd ask for Alcantara.

Turner did well out of the gate when the Marlins called him up last season. He had a 2.68 ERA in 77 IP over his first 12 games. He had pretty bad control overall though. 4.1 BB/9.

That said, he's still just 22 and has a the top prospect pedigree. I mentioned in the other thread I thought Vogelbach might be too much, then I took it back. Turner is too young to write off, and his upside will likely always be there.

Then again, he's had shoulder issues and if that shoulder gives out then he's toast. He'd be a risky acquisition because he'd probably cost someone like Vogelbach, who should be able to pull in someone a little more reliable IMO, and he might end up completely useless vs. inefficient. If he'd be inefficient that's just him not being able to live up to the hype, but if he simply can't play then we just wasted Vogelbach.

I have absolutely zero interest in Jacob Turner. No strikeouts, and the walk and groundball rates are nothing to write home about. The raw stuff is unimpressive too. So really, the only things in his favor are his age and his walk rate in the low minors...

Basically, he's a less impressive version of Kyle Hendricks with one less year of club control and some burned options.

Even thinking about giving up a guy like Vogelbach or Alcantara is nuts.
