Rumor has it that Arizona may be interested in Samardzija since Corbin is out for season. Maybe we could get Archie Bradley?

They call us, we ask for Bradley, they hang up. That's been the story all offseason. There's no reason for us to loosen up our trade demands now. If we don't get what we want, then we extend him or deal him at the deadline.

Hard to believe two years ago they had Bradley, Skaggs, Bauer, and Delgado forming their rotation of the future. Then they traded two of them for crap and clearly don't care for one of them (Delgado) otherwise they wouldn't be looking for a replacement.

They signed Arroyo despite already having a rotation that consisted of Corbin, Miley, Cahill, McCarthy, and Delgado (and Bradley knocking at the door). If Towers had half a brain he'd just let Delgado take the 5th spot. He put up very reasonable numbers given his age and situation last season.

Crazy too think a nap is all that cost us Delgado. Would we still rather have Delgado than Villanueva/Hendricks at this point? I'm thinking no.

oh damn, ZiPS has Delgado down for a 4.90 FIP (4.33 for Hendricks)

Good question. I really, really wanted Delgado(still do) but I think we received more value out of Hendricks and Villanueva. One, I honestly think Hendricks is going to be a long term innings eater for us. Two, my honest guess is we could receive close to Delgado, if we just dealt Villanueva one for one. I don't think he gets nearly the attention he deserves.

Can we trade Villanueva for the actual Delgado? Because I'd do that in an instant, I'm still pretty bullish on him.

Somewhat related...

ESPN New York is reporting that the Diamondbacks are making Didi Gregorius -- and not Chris Owings -- available in trade discussions.

Arizona is targeting a starting pitcher to offset the loss of intended Opening Day starter Patrick Corbin (UCL tear). Three D'Back scouts took in a Mets intrasquad game involving Double-A and Triple-A players Tuesday; starters Noah Syndergaard, Logan Verrett and Jacob deGrom all pitched in that game. Over his first 38 games last season, Gregorius hit .322. He slashed .202/.294/.284 in his remaining 65 games. Owings, obviously favored for the starting shortstop job, is one of the game's best prospects at that position.

BUT HE'S GOT DEREK JETER POTENTIAL!!!!

I still can't believe Towers made that trade.

I originally thought so, but Bauer had a reputation almost from the start of his pro career of being hard to coach. I could see it being a big enough turn off to teams that he had only a few takers.(I'd still take a chance on him personally)

still, he had to have more value at the time than [expletive] didi

Definitely this. He was still considered one of the top pitching prospects in baseball at the time of the trade. Regardless of what occurred after the trade, at the time it was made his value was way more than Didi Gregorius. We might as well have given them Barney for him.

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere

At least 15 scouts were present Thursday as Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings Thursday, with the Blue Jays sending three scouts to the game, CBSChicago.com reports.

The Cubs and Samardzija have yet to work out a long-term extension, which is the team's preference, but trading him now with two full seasons before he reaches free agency should bring a better return than if the Cubs were to hang on to him until next offseason. Samardzija is set to take the mound in the Cubs opener.
