Bears WR Marquess Wilson (broken right collarbone) is expected to be sidelined until "at least" midseason.

Wilson broke his collarbone in three separate places. The specific timeline is 12-14 weeks. It means he'll almost certainly begin the year on injured reserve/designated to return, and leaves the door open for Santonio Holmes to run away with No. 3 duties. I.R./return would make Wilson ineligible to return before Week 10, as the Bears are on bye in Week 9. Week 10 would be a best-case scenario, and isn't terribly likely. Wilson no longer has re-draft upside for the 2014 season, but remains a hold in Dynasty leagues.

Well, Week 10 would be 15 weeks after the injury, so I'm not sure why they call that optimistic if it's a 12-14 week timeline. Oh well, either way it's pretty clear that we shouldn't count on Wilson being much of a factor this season.

#Bears lead the NFL in total offense this preseason. They are ranked 30th in total defense this preseason. Again, it's the preseason.

Considering he retired on his rookie contract and had a very expensive injury, it wouldn't surprise me if he's an ordinary waiter/cook.

Very sad.

I hope people remember this every time they're mad at a player for holding out.

What is an expensive injury?

It's not like he was paying for his procedures?

Yeah seriously. Even though the Bears would pay for it no matter what, he was still kept on the roster the entire year he was out and not cut until the next training camp.

I know somebody that knows somebody that went to HS with Knox in Texas. I'm pretty sure he's not just working there. He apparently was always a humble guy and smart enough to take care of his money.

On the other hand that just may mean he's smart/humble enough to know he can hold onto his nest egg and make just enough to live a normal life style rather than invest his earnings in a risky business.

I totally forgot about Spurlock as a returner. 5 total return TDs in his career, 3 kickoff and 2 punt.

First player in Bucs history to ever return a kickoff for TD......in 2009.

#Bears 6th rd pick Pat O'Donnell has won punting competition. Source says team has waived P Tress Way.

in case there was any suspense over it

Long snapper competition also over. Bears cutting Way's designated snapper, Chad Rempel. Wonder if they will bother signing anyone with cuts due at the end of the week. Could use a TE

It's an injury that prevents you from earning in the future. If the NFL doesn't guarantee contracts, meaning you can be cut at any time and don't get anything more, then players should absolutely get the maximum they can in the present.

yes. the non guarantee likely drives up salaries too.

not necessarily. it's the reason for money upfront, but i doubt it actually drives the deal amounts up significantly

I'm really strangely looking forward to this Seattle preseason game. The Seattle game from 2012 is the game I point to that kept the Bears out of the playoffs that year at 10-6. The game went to OT, but the Bears really got beat up, I thought. Gave up 459 yards of offense, when the defense was still pretty good. Could not contain Russell Wilson in the pocket and he made plays on the edge all day, including running for 70+.

In 2011, they completely embarassed the Caleb Hanie led Bears with 31 unanswered 2nd half points, the week before Christmas, basically ending that season and literally ending Johnny Knox's career.

Another thing I remember about the 2012 game is Brandon Marshall was pretty much a 1-man show. 10 catches for 165 of the team's 233 passing yards as Richard Sherman was ducking him until the hail mary that led to the tie that Marshall literally caught over Sherman. Jeffery was hurt and wasn't Jeffery yet. Earl Bennett and Weems were the 2-3 WRs that day. I also seem to remember Kellen Davis with a few complete F ups that game.

But the Seahawks are the standard. I am cautiously optimistic about this Bears team and think they can make a deep playoff run. And for some reason, I think they match up well vs. Seattle. Size at WR, good pass blocking OL, ability to make plays over the top. The Bears also really struggled with Golden Tate and Sidney Rice in the past, and both are now gone, so I think they match up better outside now. But the Bears will be tested in their run D and pocket contain, something they really need to work on with Kap and the Niners looming in Week 2.

Not that this game means much ultimately, but I'm glad this is the game the Bears will gameplan a little for. I really want to gauge this team's performance against the best, and in the toughest place in the NFL to play. A good early showing, and I become very optimistic about this season.

Ugh why do you gotta remind me about that 2012 game? This was before anyone thought the Seahawks were good. I think they were undefeated at home to that point but something like 1-5 on the road, so everyone expected us to win, and we led the whole game until the last 3 drives where they just took it to the Bears and scored every time. After that game the Seahawks went on a rampage and really set the stage for their 2013 Super Bowl run.

That's a pointless distinction. Lots of players get cycled out of the league by injury every year.
