Despite the playoff success, Cutler is a steal compared to Kaepernick.

Kap's deal is apparently more creative than some of the initial reports, giving the 9ers some flexibility.

According to multiple sources, including SI.com, the Chicago Bears should be/are investigating the possibility of signing Ed Reed.

EDIT: Looks like this is another misleading blurb. The SI.com article just listed 5 teams that Reed could end up on. Bears were one suggestion.

B-Marsh tweeted that today is going to be a big day. Saw some theories that Bears would be announced for Hard Knocks...

Then I noticed this MMQB article, and wondered if that's all it is...

Hasn't Hard Knocks been out of the question for a while since multiple teams had volunteered?

That seems to be something that was said, but who knows exactly how that selection process is going to work.

Admittedly, Marshall didn't say it was going to be a big day for the Bears, so he could've been referring to something else entirely.

I think it's been pretty clearly put out there that the NFL can only force a team in if nobody volunteers.

It's certainly possible that the report that there were teams volunteering was inaccurate, though.

I had to look it up, but it seems the league actually passed a rule on the show's selection process, and it is documented here:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000259014/article/owners-pass-hard-knocks-rule-at-nfl-fall-meeting

Volunteers are accepted. If nobody volunteers, the league will appoint a team to appear on the show, and they must. The following teams are exempt:

1) First year head coach

2) Made the playoffs at least once in the past 2 seasons

3) Have already appeared on the show, going back 10 seasons

I think some of the confusion is from stories that have come out saying a team "turned down" the show. They can't turn it down. They can decline to volunteer, but if they qualify then the league can force them to be on the show. At least, that's how it looks to me.

So, the Bears were voted best offense for 2014 by fans on ESPN.com. 22% of the vote. More than Philly at 14% and Denver at 13%. FWIW, the Packers were included in "others", while the Chiefs and Browns were options. So grain of salt.

We knew all of this.. This is why people were optimistic that the Bears would have been the NFL's choice (because the Bears have always been against it - and very publicly - but would seem to be the most attractive option presented by the new rules). There have been fairly recent reports that a handful of teams were raising their hands for it, though, which would mean the NFL can't appoint a team.

The Marshall thing looks like it was a trip with some friends family, possibly related to his foundation...nothing Bears related.

"Jay has really worked hard in the offseason, and he has always been a hard worker in his conditioning and his training, but he has really amped it up," Trestman said on the radio. "He’s bigger, he’s stronger than a year ago, and he has really focused on staying physically well for the entire season. That’s No. 1 — we’ve got to keep him standing, keep him safe. And we see the improvements he’s made in working on different issues in his mechanics, and I think he’s feeling very comfortable back there in Year 2."

Definitely excited to see what "year 2" will mean for him.

Yeah I wouldn't call the Bears the best offense in the NFL. They should be in the conversation though.

Sorry we are still 20 Bryant Home Runs (how I choose to measure time now) from training camp opening.
