Weird mock over at NFLDraftTek has the Bears taking CJ Mosely over Dennard, Donald, etc. and all of the DT's sans Nix falling to the early 2nd. I'm wary of Donald as a combine-hyped prospect, but I still can't see that happening.

Donald isn't your typical combine-hyped prospect though. Dude's numbers were ridiculous. 28.5 TFL and 11 sacks from the DT position. 63 TFL and 27.5 sacks in the last 3 years. He's the real deal. The only concern is if the lack of size hampers him at the next level.

I don't get the amount of concern over his size. His weight is fine and sure he's a little short. But there's already proven success with that body type at the NFL level (Geno Atkins among others).

There's also proven failure with that body type. I don't really question if Donald won't fail, but I'm not sure if he's the next Geno Atkins or the next Chris Zorich.

Who? Lets make it 6'1" or shorter and 290 or less... Lets also make it in the last 10 years. I'll wait while you make a list.

Zorich had success.

Yes, he had a solid 6 year career with 2 very good years. And I expect Donald to have success, which is why I didn't pick a complete failure. But with the 14th pick, I want more than a solid career. I don't know if he's a potential 1st team all pro like Atkins.

I think its my own bias, but anything under 3-bills seems smallish for DT. I thought that about Melton in spite of his production.

Wasn't Tommie Harris a tad shy of 300 out of college?

And he was considered smallish. Though as a 3 - technique he's fine.

Darnell Dockett's listed playing weight is under 300 lb FWIW

Yeah the stout run defenders don't do much for me.

That's because it's not 1998 anymore.

"Hello - we all weigh over 300 lbs. " - Geno Atkins / Haloti Ngata / Vincent Wilfork / Jay Ratliff / Randy Starks / Linval Joseph / Michael Brockers / Kevin Williams / Marcel Dareus / Ndamukong Suh / Nick Fairley / Kyle Williams

EDIT: My point is that if you are drafting a 1st or 2nd Rnd DT he should be able to stop the run and collapse the pocket. Having smaller DT's that get pushed backwards was a big part of our problem last season.

The problem with the DTs they had last year is they were 5th stringers and mostly garbage.

Pretty sure not all of those guys were 300+ out of college, though.

This. Landon Cohen should never see an NFL field. I think there was another scrub too but I forgot his name, and rightfully so.

Linval Joseph was listed at 322 at ECU

He's probably right about guys like Atkins and the Williams boys, but I think the rest were there.
