The two new guys are a combined 118 years old with about 75 years of coaching experience. I have to think there is a reason behind that, like they felt their staff was very inexperienced, and maybe somewhat disrespected by the veteran players. The two guys they replaced were both around 40 with only about a decade of coaching each.

Herring spent the last three seasons coaching linebackers in the Texans’ 3-4 defense and the Bears’ press release Thursday morning pointed out that “Connor Barwin made the transition to outside linebacker from defensive end and tied for third in the AFC with a team-high 11.5 sacks” under Herring’s watch in 2011. Shea McClellin is expected to make a similar switch for the Bears this offseason.

For anyone that cares, Forte, Jeffery and Marshall will be playing on the same team in the Pro Bowl. Long and Jennings will be on the other team. I have no idea which team.

@HubbuchNYP: Seahawks DE Michael Bennett, on a 1-year deal, told me brother Martellus keeps lobbying him hard to join him with the Bears next season.

@HubbuchNYP: Seahawks DE Michael Bennett was asked if Martellus might come to Seattle instead. Michael: "No way. He's never leaving Chicago."

@HubbuchNYP: Michael Bennett told me his dream is to play on the same team as Martellus, but it likely won't be the Bears. Why? "I don't like the cold."

He doesn't like the cold yet he plays for Seattle? Or is he just saying he had no choice last off-season but go there and will go somewhere "warm" this off-season?

Oh interesting. I just checked the weather/climate for Seattle. I knew Chicago is colder, but not that much colder in winter months.

Is Michael Bennett really good?

Yes...

Bennett is my favorite DE target this offseason (amongst those likely to hit the market).

It's not warm, either. It's the perfect climate for fat people.

Yeah, I still think the Bears would need an additional edge rusher with Bennett. He's never been a 10+ sack guy. He's a pretty good all around guy though, probably give you about 10 sacks, as he has share a lot of time his entire career. But I'd like the Bears to find a potential 12+ sack edge guy at some point in the draft. Unfortunately, I don't think there are very many of those guys in this draft.

Michael Bennett can keep himself warm with the piles of money he will have.

Also, he can go train with his brother and the rest of the Marshall group in the off season.

Yeah, except the entire downtown is built on a steep hill. Fat folk will liken it to hell.

If Emery finds a 12 sack guy this off-season he's a miracle man.

Johnson had 11.5 in 2012. Even with a down sack year in 2013, he's probably the best bet, if you're looking for sacks. I really like Everson Griffen though, as a situational guy.

I said, "potential". Even if he's not going to get there for a couple years. The Bears need to find a guy with elite edge rushing potential. As good as Bennett is, he's not an elite edge rusher. And Bennett, Wootton, Bass, Washington and McClellin is essentially the exact same group as last year, that didn't get enough pressure on the QB. And also, if they are going to go hybrid or 3-4, they'll need a guy that can stand up and rush the QB.
