Jay, Martellus, Wilson, Alshon, and Forte heading to Florida to work out with Brandon. Love it. I hope Brandon gets an extension here soon.

Definitely liking that Wilson is part of that group.

Certainly sounds like Earl Bennett is not going to be back.

I'm sure it'll happen soon. More of a restructure to lower his number this year and give him probably 2-3 extra years.

I'm excited about Wilson with those guys. Dynamic ability.

My guess also. He's under contract, but doesn't have a huge cap number. But I think he's cut just to get Wilson on the field.

Plus they already know and have the playbook so they can work out on the timing. I believe when Martellus and Alshon went last year, they didn't have Trestman's playbook did they? Marshall has really step up ever since he came to Chicago.

I also assume that Wilson is probably going to get the same workout treatment as Alshon got last year? Work on his conditioning/eating right/etc... I wonder if this means Earl is cut so they can have Wilson as the #3 WR?

Ha, didn't think of it that way. Doesn't look good for him, I guess.

Emery and Trestman did praise Earl's performance by name. He can probably come back with a reduced salary.

He already did that this year.

Didn't he just restructure last year? And generally speaking constant restructuring just makes the inevitable cap hit that much worse?

Typically, but this would give Marshall more guaranteed years/money, so I'm sure he'd be all for it. The last restructure just moved money around.

Definitely excited about Wilson.

Surely the first time I've ever seen you write that.

Is Wilson a possession receiver like Bennett or does he have downfield speed?

Downfield speed. He's not a guy that timed well in the 40, but he can certainly get down the field. But he was also pretty elusive with the ball in his hands at Washington St.

I'd like to see one burner WR, Wilson is another 6-4 stud, not sure he has the speed/cuts to spread the field

He's also only about 190lbs. He's a different type of WR. He's not what I would call a burner though. Which I don't think is necessary. I think the last few years have shown you have a better chance of completing a deep ball to a big WR like Jeffery vs. a fast one like Knox.

I don't think it's 100% necessary either. This year shows that. I do think the likely returner option with it makes it pretty appealing though. I think a Johnny Knox would be a pretty damn good 3/4 receiver and return man. Even if the long bomb to the burners rarely connects it should open up the middle more for the big guys.

From what I remember watching him at Washington State and reading his scouting report, it seems like he's a skinnier version of Jeffery. A playmaker, good at jump ball, good hands, route running isn't that good, tall and lanky, long stride and elusive so he can beat you downfield if the CB is caught napping. Can cover a lot of ground in a hurry with his stride.

There's potential there. Even if he did everything right, I don't think he's as talented or has as much potential as Jeffery, but they do have similar skills/style.
