— The Chicago Bears are rumored to have strong interest in the cornerback position. A source with a team picking after the Bears in Round 1 tells me he or she expects the team to draft the best corner available with pick No. 14.

- Matt Miller

Read that. I'd guess Gilbert would be gone. He's gotta be a threat to go every pick from about Minnesota (8th) on. I like Dennard, but don't know if I love him in the top 15. Of course, I'd almost never pick a CB in the top 20 unless I'm getting Patrick Peterson/Joe Haden.

No to Dennard. Who are Gilbert's comparable players?

Isn't it kind of assumed that if this kind of info is being leaked then the Bears are almost certainly going another direction and just putting this out there as misinformation?

I still say this makes perfect sense. There is no way they feel comfortable relying on Tillman being healthy all year - who plays when he gets hurt? They may plan to go with more nickel, and in any case they are desperately thin in the defensive backfield.

And what exactly is wrong with Dennard?

My only problem with being locked into CB in the first round is that it's a deep draft and you can get starting caliber players in the second or possibly even later.

Former Bears Director of College Scouting Greg Gabriel on why he's draft CB or LB in the first round if he was still the Bears: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Holes-to-fill.html

Basically believes there's a major drop off after the top 5 CBs and Mosley so the Bears won't get good value at those positions at 51.

CB is always a deep position. Unless a CB is a clear top 10 prospect, there's little difference from a mid 1st rounder to a 3rd rounder. Hes right about ILB, but im not a big Mosley fan.

I thought Dennard and Gilbert are considered borderline Top Ten? I've seen them both going at 8 or 9 in several mocks.

I think Gilbert is. He'll be gone by time the Bears pick at 14. Dennard, I think, I have ranked about 15. So, he's not far off. But I'd just as soon wait a round for Stanley Jean Baptiste or Bradley Roby (if he falls a little) than take Dennard at 14. Especially since the Bears don't necessarily have to have a CB come in and start Day 1.

Heard from a couple of teams that wonderlic score for Manziel was "north of 30". If you are into those kinds of things.... & you may not be

All I did was post the tweet with the info. Never claimed it was some amazing feat or anything. Depending on how far north of 30 the score was he was a little above average to well above average.

No, Lance Zierlein, I'm not.

btw, mock draft?

where has dew been

I'm still around, but the mock did slip my mind with the draft pushed back this year. I should be able to get it posted later tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Figure we can start it within the next few days and have enough time for at least a round and maybe two.

@TonyPauline: Dominique Easley/DL/Florida drawing heavy interest from Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, NE Patriots & San Fransisco 49ers...saying 2nd rnd

If they're comfortable with the medicals, getting Easley in the second round would be fantastic.

He was quicker off the line than Aaron Donald when he was healthy. Dee Ford like first step from the interior.

Exactly. Woulda been a top 10 pick and best DL in the draft if he didn't tear the other ACL this year. To get that in the second round would be great value.

Angelo: "Clowney has issues, red flag issues. Acute problems...I do see him going high in the draft because he's tremendous talent.''

Rich Campbell ‏@Rich_Campbell 3m

Jerry Angelo on @gamechicago said he'd pay attention to draft analysts (Kiper, Mayock, etc) b/c they have info from many teams. Interesting

Cowboys trying to figure out a way, any way, to get Manziel. Boy would that be a spectacle.

About the Texans, and I'm sure this has already been discussed in this thread and I've just missed it, but what's the downside to drafting JFF? Jersey sales, season ticket sales, and the publicity alone will more than pay for the pick, even if he is a bust. So what's the downside to drafting him? That he is a mediocre QB just like 15 other starting QB's in the league? Whereas the upside is that he could be a Russell Wilson-esque QB AND you'd get all the jersey sales, etc.

If they pick Clowney and he turns out to be average or a total head case and Manziel goes somewhere and is All-Pro, then the people that run that organization will literally never hear the end of it until their dying days.
