If Illinois fired Beckman would they give Lane Kiffin a look? At the very least he'd recruit as well or better than anybody in the history of the program, and he'd also probably put out one of the best offenses in the Big 10. He'd be a huge upgrade.

Ogre would be a good fit.

He was as a bigger failure at Ole Miss than Kiffen at USC. And the only reason that anybody is bringing his name up now is the order in which they went 6-2 with him as interim.

Its pretty well documented the situations that Kiffen walked into at Oakland and SC. Im not saying hes a great coach, im saying he is a great hire for Illinois. If you would have told Kiffen hed be in Champaign five years ago hed have cut himself. Now hed take the job.

I'm bringing his name up b/c I think he's a buffoon and I want to see him tank another program.

I'd take Kiffin in a second. He's damaged goods and still young.

No way I'd want Lane Kiffin anywhere near my football program, and this comes from a guy who supports a team who hired Bobby Petrino.

Actually, if you're going to hire a complete job-hopping [expletive], Petrino might not be a bad idea. You know he'd leave WKU in a heartbeat.

I'd definitely take Petrino over Kiffin.

What about Randy Shannon, I thought he got kind of a raw deal at Miami

He's our LB coach at Arkansas and our best recruiter. You can't have him.

so far as I can tell, Boise State and Ohio State were the only undefeated teams that year. If the only two undefeated teams right now were FSU and Boise State, I think an argument for Auburn holds much more weight

Vegas has odds of winning the national championship as follows right now:

FSU 1/3

Auburn 7/2

OSU 4/1

Missouri 8/1

OSU has the clearer path to the championship game, and Auburn would be favored if they were playing the buckeyes.

Heard somebody mention it on the radio and didn't believe it so I looked it up myself. So apparently Ohio State hasn't played a team ranked in the Top 10, outside of a bowl game, since 2009. 49 regular season games since they played a #10 ranked Iowa. That's not an argument on my part that they should or shouldn't be in the NCG, but that's really stunning. In those same 49 games, Ole Miss played against teams ranked in the Top Ten 14 times.

Why do you say auburn would be favored? I doubt it. I'd love to put a plus ml bet on OSU in that game. Auburn won a fluky game againt bama and pulled one ou of their ass again st Georgia. Withou that one in a million bounce vs Georgia we aren't haven this convo. Auburn is a two point favorite vs mizzou which probably means they give a slight edge to mizzou in the game.

Nobody was paying attention to auburn when they got rocked by lsu but it still happened. Mississippi state led the whole way at auburn, and wazzu almost beat them. Auburn has no business passing OSU.

FWIW, Outkick the Coverage had one sportsbook's spreads for various Top 5 matchups:

Alabama -3 vs Florida St

Alabama -10.5 vs Ohio St

Florida St -10 vs Ohio St

Florida St -9 vs Auburn

Florida St -9 vs Missouri

Auburn -1 vs Ohio St

Missouri -1 vs Ohio St
