Bears are gonna have two 1,000 yard receivers for the first time since Jeff Graham and Curtis Conway.

That team also did not make the playoffs.

Also?

The pessimist in me is not expecting this year's to make it, too.

Marshall is on pace for 1,325 yards receiving. Alshon is on pace for 1,309 yards. If that happens, they will be 3rd and 4th in Bears single-season history, behind only Marshall last year (1,508) and Marcus Robinson (1,400).

Also, Marshall is on pace for 102 catches which would be the 2nd highest in team history (behind his 116 last year) and 3rd 100 reception season. Alshon is on pace for 86 which would be 6th.

All of that in the first year of Trestman's offense, with a large percentage of the snaps being taken by a backup journeyman QB. Imagine years 2 and 3 with a healthy Cutler.

Fixed for ya.

I'm still in denial. I don't want to part with my Have a Nice Jay, and Jay Cutty is my Buddy t-shirts...

WMBD 31's Kurt Pegler has confirmed the Chicago Bears have reached out to ‪#‎Washington‬ High School for permission to wear Panther t-shirts before and after Sunday's game at St. Louis vs. the Rams. ‪#‎BearDown‬ ‪#‎CentralIllinoisStrong‬

If they're taking a non-first round QB, it should be Aaron Murray, not AJ McCarron.

I wasn't going for should. But yeah. Murray, Garropolo, etc. But McCarron's a winner!

Playing hypothetical. So do the Saints let Jimmy Graham walk? If so, does Phil Emery just open the checkbook and make the offense that much better?

There are way more pressing needs right now than tight end.

No. Though, he'd actually save money by signing Graham and going w/ a cheap QB. Then he could let Marshall walk after 2014 and still have a great offense. It wouldn't be a horrible idea.

If you're going to pay big in FA, why overpay for mediocre talent when you can overpay and get a legit stud?

While Graham is total stud, isn't there something to say about how much of his success is due in part to Drew Brees?

And from a cap perspective, they're eventually going to have to figure out what to do with Marshall and then Jeffrey not too long after that. Although there seems to be some sentiment that Marshall won't be here after his contract expires next season. Be a bummer to lose that duo, because it sure is fun to watch Marshall and Jeffrey wreck havoc on opposing secondaries.

Notes from Bears practice today:

McClellin and Ratliff both did DL drills.

Devin Hester worked on drills with Jon Hoke.......yes, Jon Hoke the defensive backs coach.

I think the Bears will resign him if he's willing to do a 2-3 year dealdeal. I think having 2 big talented receivers like Marshall and Jeffery is key for Trestman's offense. Based on his comments subbing on the Jay Cutler show, Marshall loves Chicago and wants to play the rest of his career here, so I don't think it would be an issue on his end as long as he has a realistic expectation of what he should be paid.

I think Marshall is either restructured this offseason (given an extra year, maybe 2) or franchised after 2014. Either way, I don't think next year will be his last in Chicago. There's no way they're going to give him a 5-year deal he probably wants/deserves to take him into his age 36 season. No matter what the guaranteed money is.

Marshall still has a solid 3 years left IMO. His game isnt predicated on speed or explosiveness as much as say, a Desean Jackson or AJ Green.

Bingo. I would give restructure his contract this offseason and feel confident enough to add 3-4 more years for an extension. You can always just cut him that last year (assuming his cap hit isn't like Peppers) if he isn't performing. He got the skill set to last longer than most WRs, but the only questions will be injuries (like every other WR/player) and his size (staying in great shape).

raw- 5 years deal (next season + 4 years extension) would put Marshall through his age 34 season, not 36 so he will be a FA at age 35. Now if you want to give him a shorter deal so you can pay Jeffery if he keeps improving, then ok I can get behind that too.

@mikecwright: Frey, Paea, and Steltz didn't practice today. Paea was in a boot.

@mikecwright: Frey has a fracture in his hand.

There's also the question of his mental state.

So Hester is potentially sliding into a nickel/dime role?

Can't afford to lose Frey. Hopefully he can play with some type of glove/cast or something.

Oh and Hester making a mistake on offense = him not getting thrown the ball or an INT a good defense could possibly overcome. Hester mistake on defense = guys running free in the secondary. This can't be good.
