I can't see them catching the Bucks

i can't either, but the second-worst record locks them into a top 5 pick and gives them almost a 90% chance of a top 4 pick, which is fine in a draft this good. plus the sixers have the pelicans pick as long as they don't get extremely lucky in the lottery. a top 5 pick plus drafting somewhere around #11, plus MCW and nerlens noel, is a really strong base to rebuild around. hopefully enough to get a couple of good free agents to jump on board.

I agree. If they get a little lucky/play this right they are potentially building something special.

And I meant the Bucks comment more towards pointing out how bad the Bucks are. There is a team in rapid decline, losing by 40+ 2 games in a row, that is going to make moves at the deadline to lose more, the season is only ~1/2 way over and there is a team that they still won't be able to catch.

So admittedly my interest in this NBA season died with DRose's knees, but I've gotta ask: what the hell happened that the Toronto Raptors are the 3 seed in the East?

The east is a special kind of terrible.

This. If the playoffs were just top 16 teams get in, Indiana and Miami might be the only two who get in from the East.

If the east didn't get to play the east so much, it'd be even worse.

I didn't see an nba trade deadline thread, but pacers just traded granger for Evan turner.

The Pacers could put a starting lineup out there consisting just of their bench players that is probably capable of making a run at the 8 seed in the east

CJ Watson

Turner

Chris Copeland

Scola

Mahimi/Bynum

the sixers seem to have acquired two 2nd round picks and someone named eric maynor for nothing.

the sum of the sixers' trades:

Sixers Trade:

Spencer Hawes

Evan Turner

Lavoy Allen

Conditional 2014 2nd Round Draft Pick (top 55 protected, so it won't be dealt because the sixers are going to finish like last)

$16,339,867 in cap

Sixers Acquire:

Earl Clark (already has been cut)

Henry Sims

Eric Maynor

Byron Mullens

Danny Granger

Cavaliers 2014 2nd Round Draft Pick

Grizzlies 2014 2nd Round Draft Pick

Pelicans 2015 2nd Round Draft Pick

Warriors 2015 2nd Round Draft Pick

Nuggets 2016 2nd Round Draft Pick

Clippers 2018 2nd Round Draft Pick

$21,235,695 in cap

Dude that team would compete for a 3 seed in the East

You'd have to do a pretty good sell job to tell me that 5 is better than the Bulls considering I've never heard of 2/5 of the players and I have seen CJ Watson enough with my own blood stained eyes.

Gross exaggeration. That team would obviously be terrible. But not bad for a complete 2nd unit. Still not better than Watson/Brewer/Korver/Taj/Omer. Even if that unit couldn't score.

I personally don't think that Pacers bench is all that good. I'm not even all that sure it's an above average bench.

However, they don't really need it to be. They just need the bench to not be horrendously awful like it was last year. They were basically playing with five players last year and made it to game 7 of the ECF, and the starters are just as good this year. Some select contributions from that bench could help push them over the top.
