Week 7 - Bears (4-2) @ Humanskins (1-3) 12 pm CT FOX

Pretty bummed about the Cutler injury, but given the state of the defense, I can't imagine that this team has a high ceiling anyhow. Tell me if I'm being overly dramatic, but the bears really needed that win yesterday, and I think that loss pretty much dinged any hopes for a playoff berth.

Well, not "any hopes", but losing to the Redskins just shows they are capable of losing to any team left on the schedule. Detroit could put 50 points on the board. That's the game that probably determines the 2nd WC.

I think this is correct, but if Cutler misses the rest of the season with this injury, he would be the only current starting QB in the NFL to have 2 season ending injuries (at least 6 games) in his career. Here is a nearly complete list of season ending QB injuries by current QBs.

Alex Smith - Missed last 7 games of 2007 season

Carson Palmer - Missed last 12 games of 2008 season

Tom Brady - Missed last 15 games of 2008 season

Matthew Stafford - Missed last 8 games of 2010 season

Tony Romo - Missed last 10 games of 2010 season

Matt Schaub - Missed last 6 games of 2011 season

Jay Cutler - Missed last 6 games of 2011 season

Chad Henne - Missed last 12 games of 2011 season

Peyton Manning - Missed entire 2011 season

Sam Bradford - Missed final 9 games of 2013 season

Jay Cutler - Could potentially miss final 9 games of 2013 season

Meanwhile, the GB starting QB has made his start in 324 out of the last 325 weeks (technically 326 but QB sat Rodgers the last week of a season for non-injury related reasons)

Weird. It's like that whole "protecting the quarterback" thing is kind of important.

You're right of course, but the last Cutler season ender was a fluke thumb injury trying to make a tackle, not because of a sack or protection issues.

And Rodgers is getting hit plenty too now, isn't he?

@Shep670

According to @PFF the Bears starting safeties graded out a combined -8.3 yesterday. Briggs had defenses highest grade at +2.9.

I pray they don't trade another pick, giving up a 6th or higher would be stupid. Id still go after Seymour since it is only financial.

If everything went ok, they' d still need 2-3 on the line, one lb, 2 cbs, and ideally 2 safeties. I assume if they play safd, they unfort. keep Peppers, bring Melton back and be content with the front four, bring back JA and be content with the front 7. Dbs, bring back either Jennings or Tillman, with Frye starting and who knows with the safeties. The bad news is that most likely barring a great draft, it'll be just as bad.

I hope they don't try and recycle this defense and use injuries as the excuse.

I don't think they'll make a trade. Too many roster spots to fill in the offseason. They need the draft picks for cheap players at the very least.

Yeah, I think Emery is all about the draft. I would be shocked if he traded away anything but a 7th rounder for any current player.

I know its only a 7th rounder but that trade for Rosario hasn't worked out.

Briggs is out 4-6 weeks.

Next man up!

So that's Melton, Collins, Williams, Briggs and Cutler (most likely) all with significant injuries.

For reference, Bears injury report heading into the Bears-Seahawks playoff game in 2011:

Instead of bringing back Urlacher from the dead

Can't we just somehow blame that big bald prick for this?

This is our karma for not re-signing him!(mentioned by every meatball on Chicago radio today, is my guess)

Man, didn't even think about Urlacher. Meatballs might be calling in suggesting Urlacher and Anthony Adams coming back from the dead.

I blame Tucker for not starting Steltz over Wright. Best safety since Plank or Fencik.
