Isn't boozer like 13 percent of their cap? That's significant if you're not getting that-much-above-average production out of it.

With the NBA's soft cap, it doesn't matter as much. If the Bulls had made Boozer their amnesty player this year, they would have still been over the cap. All it affected was that instead of a mid-level exception of just over 5 million they could offer, they instead only had the mini mid level of just over 3 million (and certain rules on trades that the Bulls weren't likely to take advantage of anyway). It cost ownership quite a bit of money to keep him as the Bulls appear to be paying in the neighborhood of 12 million in luxury taxes this year, but that's it.

Next year they could open up some salary cap room by amnestying Boozer and renouncing Deng, but probably not enough to make it worth it to do.

I have no idea, but the Bulls aren't in salary cap mode. You cut Boozer's salary and your incremental gain is at best the MMLE to the MLE which is like $3M and possibly a little extra trade flexibility (would need to check exact figures). I forget exactly with the new CBA but maybe the BAE too, but that's only every two years anyways, can't be combined with MLE, and honestly might even still be available when over the apron - I'd have to check.

The NBA is not the NFL, MLB, or NHL in regards to salaries.

Oh I know, I get into it with Thunder fans who want to amnesty Perkins but don't realize that financially the team gains nothing, so it won't happen. But I can understand the frustration of knowing you can't upgrade from Boozer until his contract is up.

I never even noticed he was wearing Le Coq Sportifs. Are they cheap shoes?

Earlier this week Dan Bernstein said the Bulls won't do much this year because they can't win with a bad second string center. Noah's feet always fall off in the second half and Nazi stinks. When he asked who is going to be the guy other than Rose that will create his own shot in the playoffs, Dan didn't say Jimmy couldn't be that guy. I still don't even see the Bulls making the Eastern Conference finals without major injuries to the Pacers and Heat.

Honestly even after his contract expires you can do much to upgrade unless you're willing to gut a significant portion if the team at the same time .

Would you trade Jimmy and Noah right now for Lemarcus Aldridge?

I'd have to look at how the contracts would work out afterwards. Basically if we did that trade we'd have to resign Deng after this year.

On paper I'd say hell no as I love Noah's game and I think Jimmy is a very good Deng replacement but I am a bit worried about Noah's injuries at this point. Dude just can't seem to shake them and is typically banged up come playoff time. Last year it was the foot, the year before he had a bad ankle sprain that would have kept him out a round or two if the Bulls advanced, I think the year before his thumb wasn't right and the year before the foot again.

The Bulls aren't going to win squat without another guy that can create besides Rose. Jimmy might be that guy, but there comes a time when you have gone as far as you can with this group and you need to make a trade to see if you can get to the next level. Can Aldridge play center? OK...

but there comes a time when you have got as far as you can with this group

Zah?

These seem like rather contradictory thoughts.

If Jimmy isn't the number two guy the Bulls need by the trading deadline, I'd trade him and Noah for Aldridge. But I doubt Jimmy makes that kind of jump by that time.

Why is this trading deadline the cutoff? The guy didn't play a lot in his first season and obviously didn't play at all with Rose last year. You've got Rose coming back from his injury and them simply getting used to being starters together...seems a bit quick to throw in the towel unless it's just a disaster.

What if Butler is the #4 guy because Rose, Deng and Noah are all really good?

Can that team beat the Heat, Thunder, Spurs, or Rockets? If so, then don't trade for Aldridge. I just don't think they can be that good, but I'm willing to wait 5 months to find out.

In playoff crunch time, Deng and Noah can't be relied upon to score regularly. Jimmy maybe, but I want to see his development.

Boozer is really good, man. What about him?

Still with this?

I'm just trying to fit in around here. We're supposed to love Boozer, right?

Despite facts showing your stance to be incorrect, you continue to parrot your ignorance as some sort of badge of honor. Congrats.

So you think Boozer is worth his contract? He's not a bad player but he is definitely overpaid. I don't have time to dig up the stats or even know if they are available but the dude always seems to disappear in the big games, especially the playoffs. That is my biggest issue with him. I realize I am being meatballish here, but I wish he was gone so we could move on. But I'm not saying we should amnesty him or anything like that. That doesn't make sense right now.

Who gives a [expletive] if he is "overpaid?" (in reality, the game's best players are underpaid thanks to this cap nonsense).

What good does it do you (or the team) if he's making $4M/year less or something? Or do you think he "deserves" even less than that?

Do the words "salary cap" mean anything to you?

You're not just being meatballish here.
