so annoying that something as stupid at shootouts is probably going to be the difference in the division.

The problem really isn't shootouts at this point. The fact that the Hawks haven't scored a goal in 20 straight overtime sessions is beyond pathetic with the talent they have.

Hmm, let's look at that 20 straight overtime streak a bit more closely.

 

14 of those overtimes ended with nobody scoring. Since overtimes are only 5 minutes long, even if it's 4 on 4 hockey, I would guess that the chances of overtimes ending with nobody scoring would be much greater than 50%.

 

For those other 6 overtimes, the opponent scored before them. Since overtime is sudden death, the Blackhawks are not given a chance to respond with a goal of their own. Perhaps they could have scored a goal if overtime in hockey is like added time in knockout soccer. Who knows....

 

So yes, I guess losing 6 straight overtimes is sort of concerning, but not overly so. Maybe it means something, maybe nothing. It's a moot point as soon as playoffs roll around anyways.

Kostka got claimed on waivers by the Lightning. A mostly insignificant move though we'll see if the bring up another forward or just keep 2 guys in the press box/ dog house.

For comparison purposes, the weather for the 2009 Winter Classic at Wrigley was a high of 30, low of 18. But that one was played during the day so it was probably closer to 30. The one this week will be at night, so closer to 9.
