Matheny and the Cardinals GM have both brushed this under the rug so I don't see this as a Cardinals issue. Just some random minor leaguer tweeting (and he just deleted the tweet).

Yep, I'm pretty sure I've seen Cards pitchers with it on their hat, and openly touching it before gripping the ball. I assume others are doing it, too.

This is no scandal.

Wainwright acknowledges at times using a mix of resin and sunscreen to enhance his grip. Just as significant, the combo applied to his pitching arm helps prevent sweat rolling onto his hand.

"There's a difference in pine tar from oil and grease, things that make the ball sink, cut or do different stuff," he said. "That's different than doctoring a ball. If one of our pitchers gets a scuff on the side of a ball he can do all kinds of things with it. An emery board or something like that is totally different.''

A friend of mine on facebook is going off about how the Red Sox are cheating, just like Kenny Rogers tried to do. I commented and said that most every MLB pitcher uses something to aid their grip, even wainwright admits to using the rosin/sunscreen mix. He said that the Cardinals are too good to have to resort to cheating, and that me, being a cubs fan, would be ok with Boston using corked bats.

I brought up Steve Kline, Julian Tavarez, etc... he just replied "We're not here to bring up the past."

Only when it's convenient for his argument, I guess?

The Cardinals are too good alright. Too good at hiding all their cheating.

THAT GUY WOULD BE OFF MY CHRISTMAS CARD LIST!

So at what point do we say that the Mariano Rivera farewell tour has crossed the line to overdone? I like to think it's somewhere prior to "on-field salute at a World Series game that doesn't have any connection to him".

I'm in FL on vaca and going to meet up with 14 in laws tomorrow for the weekend. They're all Cards fans from StL - nothing would make me happier than a boston win tonight.
