Week 4 Bears (3-0) @ Lions (2-1) Noon CT Fox/780

Some hand picked Cutler stats:

4th in the NFL in completion % (67.3)

T-4th in the NFL in TDs (6)

10th in the league in QB Rating (94.2)

3rd in the league in that ESPN QBR stat (78.1)

Completion% is the main stat I wanted to see greatly increased. It's not that it's the end-all, be-all stat, but a higher number likely means more open receivers (aka better offense designed to get guys open), less pressure (aka more time to hit open receivers), and obviously increased production comes with that.

I'm assuming you mean from where it's been in the past and not from where it currently is.

Cutler has always done that while running. This story is going to get irritating.

Why does Jay have such a rep for saying controversial things in interviews? Since he's been in Chicago he's been about as vanilla as they come.

It's the way he acts as though reporters are as stupid as they really are in press conferences.

I recall a couple of, "You shouldn't be talking if you don't know what was supposed to happen on the play" type comments.

Urlacher was always the giant [expletive] in pc's. He used to give one word answers like a total meathead ass. He never got the rep for being a jerk.

Well I should admit that Cutler's Yards Per Pass Attempt is currently at the 2nd lowest of his career (only 2009 was worse, which was his worst year as a pro imo). But I think that's by design for now. Quick drops, a focus on moving the chains, less downfield action unless the situation calls for it. It's resulted in a ton of high percentage, lower yardage throws. And for the most part its worked.

He absolutely did...especially locally.

The press never called him out for it, locally or nationally.

Reporters talk to a QB, they expect a guy that's going to provide insight into the offense, be an outward leader for everyone in the lockeroom, and be overly charismatic.

Reporters talk to a LB with a bald head and barbed wire tattoo, the expectations are a lot lower.

I am actually looking forward to seeing Minter get some time. Don't get me wrong, losing Melton sucks, but I don't see a big drop off from him to Collins and Minter either.

Last year Melton was much better. I think the concussion issue really set him back this year.

Yeah, I should have clarified that-Not a big drop off from 2013 Melton.

Minter looked interesting in preseason but I think you might be expecting too much from an NDFA in his first games as a rookie.

Chicago loves linebackers.

True to a point, but Urlacher was the signal-caller on defense, with very complicated and nuanced responsibilities.

Are you sure about that? I mean Urlacher got a lot of slack because the meatballs loved the whole "Bears football is all about defense and badass MLBs" thing about him but I know most people knew he was kind of a jackass. Like that year he just flat out refused to talk to the media except for Jay Glazer all because he was butt hurt about something.

Yeah, the offense hasn't opened up yet at all. There have only been a few shots taken deep. Marshall TD. Harrison Smith INT. Marshall big gain last night. And maybe 2-3 more. You're not even really seeing a bunch of 15-25 yard throws, until the Bears get on the edge of the redzone. Of course, they've played some great pass rush teams so far that have dictated they get the ball out quickly. I think you could really see the offense open it up vs. New Orleans and definitely after the bye week.

I think you are overblowing the duties of the MLB.

Urlacher was definitely secretly reviled by the Chicago media, but not a lot of people had the guts to print anything negative.

I'm not saying he has the same duties as a QB, don't turn this into that. He has reads and decisions to make, pre-snap, though. It's not like he's Dexter Manley or LT, whose only job was to kill QBs.

Finally watched the Steelers game. For some reason I'm not super worried about missing Melton. Really hoping they can beat the Lions here and secure a nice early division lead.
