Vogey doubles, Bryant singles him home.

I hope that happens with regularity for the Cubs in 2-3 years...

i hope that rizzo singles bryant home and vogelbach is playing for some american league organization that traded us a really good starting pitcher.

That would be even better...

I know it's irrational, but after seeing Vogelbach's bat flip a few weeks ago, having him and Baez on the same infield would be incredibly entertaining.

Edit: Or batting 3-4 in the batting order.

Pineyro currently has 43.2 IP in High-A. With 2-3 more starts, he could reach 55-60 innings by the end of the year. He had 66 IP at Low-A before being promoted. It's possible he could start next season in AA if he pitches well next spring. If so, Tennessee would have a fun rotation to watch.

Pierce Johnson

C.J. Edwards

Corey Black

Ivan Pineyro

Ben Wells

After Rusin, Arrieta, etc., I'd say that constitutes wave #2...

The Smokies (at least by June) could also have 22-year-olds Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler and Dustin Geiger in their line-up.

Skulina and Zastryzny piggy-backing for KC tonight. Skulina throws 3 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 4 K. Z-Man thru 1, no hits, no walks, 2 Ks.

Wave #3?

*shh* Nobody tell Klaw

I wanna tell him.

For anyone who wants to re-live the hilarity, on 7/18 Law said this:

Baez operates under the strong belief -- not entirely unfounded -- that he can hit anything within a foot of the strike zone, which results in low walk rates and a tendency to give away at-bats when he doesn't get a pitch he can crush right away.

He continues to play solid defense at shortstop, and the power is insane, but it would be nice if someone in this farm system would walk more than twice a month.

Since then, Baez has hit .298/.365/.605 with a 9.5% walk rate at AA as a 20 year old. Also, Baez's walk rate by year and level:

2012

Peoria: 3.8%

Daytona: 5.8%

2013

Daytona: 6.2%

Tennessee: 8.4%

But sure Keith Law, tell us more of your grasp of how anyone in the system, especially Baez, is developing patience.

Rob Z 3IP 2H 0R 2W 4K. I'm having a really hard time placing guys like him, Skulina, Masek, Frazier, Wilson, Torrez, and Leal in a top 30. Obviously not all make it, hope we hear more on each guys stuff. Arguello says Torrez is up to 93, by the way and certainly has control. He's going to be really tough to leave off......

Seriously. Baez is the single youngest player in the Southern League to get 100 PAs this year. And he's torching it.

Slow down I'm gonna blow

He's only 20 and just coming off the DL, so he's probably a good bet to finish in Boise and start 2014 in Kane County.

it just seems like he's been in Boise for like 3 years.

Not a Sickels fan, but it'll be interesting to see how many guys we have that are at least C+ prospects. Last year we had 29, which led everyone. I can honestly see 35+ this year.

He started in Boise last year and really struggled. Played the majority of the time in the AZL.
