Baez 2 for 2 with a double and SB. It is the bottom of the 2nd.

3rd straight 2-hit game with an opposite field double and pulled single. All his hits have come in his first 2 ABs of the games too (walked in between hits yesterday). Also has stolen a base each day.

If Baez finishes strong and ends up with good numbers in AA, over 30 homeruns, and a horrible K rate, it will be interesting to see where he fits on top 100 lists, given the glaring red flag.

Edit: Particularly in comparison to Sano.

If he finishes with good numbers in AA, it would take a more than Gallo-esque K rate to keep him out of the top 10

Totally agree. But usually a guy with his profile would be in the top 3-5.

I don't think he'll pass Sano on many lists, but he'll join Sano in a lot of top 5s.

The K's are a red flag, but they bother me less when it's his first exposure to a difficult level that he is too young for, and he's smashing the level outside of the K's. It's not like Brett Jackson.

Stanton struck out 99 times in 342 PAs in his first look at AA.

That's a cool comparison, actually

Sano is 20, and is .230/.344/.533 with 10 HR and a 23/42 K/BB in 135 ABs at AA

Baez is 20, is .252/.317/.591 (!!!!!) with 11 HR and a 11/41 K/BB in 115 ABs at AA

Considering Baez position, at this point there's really no reason not to have him immediately behind Sano in the rankings.

The guy Baez and crew rocked tonight is a consensus top-50 prospect with an era below 1 this year, by the way

Baez now 3-for-3, also. His once unsightly batting average (in the .250s just one post ago!) is now .271.

I can't remember where I read it, but one of those insider-ish dudes somewhere on the internet said the Cubs promoted Baez in part to try to get him to a level where his talent couldn't overcome his flaws. I'm beginning to wonder if such a level exists.

This past weekend at the Baseball Prospectus event in Cincinnati, Jason Parks spoke quite a bit about this theory. It wasn't in reference to Baez, but just in general concerning team philosophies on promotions. Went in to detail about how stats can often hide major flaws. Fans see the stats and clamor for promotions, etc. He said the best way to reach a prospect is put them in a difficult position. Often times it is only then that they start to really adapt their game. Not that they were intentionally not listening before, but nothing gets a prospects attention more than failure.

Baez now 4-for-4 after an RBI double.

4-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 runs, 3 RBI and SB. We're in the 5th inning. He's now up to .277 in AA.

Wait I thought Hendricks had been sent down to the AZL briefly to prep for AAA. Did I imagine that?

According to the Iowa Cubs website, Hendricks is due to make his first AAA start on Thursday against Fresno.

Barring rain - I will make it a point to get down and watch him on Thursday thanks for the heads up! What should I expect? If I recall correctly the radar gun is a tad slow at PP. Hendricks tops out at what? 91- 92 on a normal gun?

Carrie Muskat[/url]"]Albert Almora is sidelined with a slight groin strain. It will likely be a few days before he’s back in Kane County’s lineup

Of course, Just in time for Thursday's game that I'm going to.

This is getting ridiculous.

i'll go ahead and mention that jokisch has a no-hitter in the 6th inning so that he can allow a hit.

Through 8

100 pitches, though he is hitting to start the 9th.
