Marshall's numbers have always been an order of magnitude better. Especially his K rates, which underscore the difference in stuff between them.

Rusin is doing a better job against LHP though, so maybe he's coming along with some adjustments that may make him a 2nd LHP in a MLB bullpen(Like they were hoping from Takahashi). He's been far too hittable throughout his career and still now to be considered more than that like Russell or Marshall though.

Rusin's numbers are similar enough to Russell's to make an interesting comparison, though.

How about Marmol sent to Iowa and Rusin called up? WTF?

You do realize you can't just do that, right?

Well, we'd have to expose him to waivers and/or give him the opportunity to decline the assignment, right? Sounds pretty doable.

I think he would pass through waivers at this point. Not too many teams would be willing to pay the remainder of his salary for a sketchy 7/8th inning guy with horrible control issues and a serious case of the yips. If he declines the assignment, is the club off the hook for his salary?

Yes. See Stewart, Ian.

That's true, although if we're honest with ourselves that's probably more to do with how rare Russell's ascent has been(or how inevitable his decline?). Odds still aren't with Rusin having much of an MLB career, but I'd be all for him taking an MLB roster spot right now. It's not as if there aren't dead weight options, and the presence of a 2nd LHP might actually coerce some better management of the few good options.

Marshall might have been been too high of praise, I admit. But I don't see why he couldn't evolve into James Russell.

Because he's striking out 5.2/9 in AAA at 27 years old. They're basically the same age, and one is dominating MLB hitters and one is getting by on an abnormally HR rate against AAA hitters.

Yes, I was going to type that I really had no idea what happened to Russell over the past couple years for him to improve so much, but got a phone call and just hit submit.

It's doubtful that the same lightning strikes Rusin.

Is the whole DFA process different than it once was? When we got Edmonds he passed through waivers, and then we signed him for the minimum and he was still being paid by SD. Did they just flat out release him?

Yes, they did.

His K rate is going to jump if he's coming out of the bullpen to face lefties. Russell's K rate in the minors was 6.4.

No Soler. That's a touch worrisome

Why? Did he have some sort of injury recently?

He was pulled from the lineup of the All-Star game without ever getting a PA.

Soler has a slight calf strain. No DL yet.

@BleacherNation Thank you, sir. RT @sahadevsharma Soler is out with a slight calf strain, nothing major. MIGHT go on 7-day DL, but probably not.

Underwood: 3.2 IP, 3 ER, 6 hits, 2 BB, HBP, 3 Ks. According to the Hawks announcer, his stuff and velocity looked great but he was having problems with his command.

zych and mcnutt have been pitching better recently. there are some pretty good arms in the tennessee pen; would be nice if we could end up with at least one reasonably solid reliever out of that bunch.

I feel like people should be mentioning Javy BB's everytime they happen. They make me *almost* as happy as Javybombs.

Anyway, went 0 for 3 with a BB a K and a R.
