Man, Bauer and Salazar and more. Even if they have to come down from that level a bit it's still fantastic.

Also, more rumors about desperate bids from the Royals would be nice. They're about my favorite match for assets near MLB-ready.

I'm not understanding the Royals desperation. They're on the fringe of contention, but not exactly in win or die mode. While they have some pitchers who are impending free agents, their core is under control for a while. I can understand them wanting to add some pieces to help them, but not mortgage the future for a top guy. Feldman would have been a better fit for their situation, and while Strop has been great early on, we probably could have gotten a better package.

Dayton Moore is on the hot seat, and failing to stay in contention this year might seal his fate. That's where the desperation comes from, not from their roster construction. Remember the Shields trade?

Supposedly 88-91.

Hasn't Dayton Moore been in the hot seat since the children of Kansas City were tearing through packs of Donruss in hopes of pulling a Bo Jackson or Kevin Seitzer rookie card?

No.

He really is on the hot seat now, between trading Myers for win-now James Shields and the limited success from the farm system he built to #1 in baseball at one point.

In his defense, James Shields has been excellent, but all their hitters forgot how to hit for power. Seems like only Eric Hosmer has started to turn things around since Brett took over as hitting coach.

That being said, that Shields move was definitely a desperation grab, and if Moore thinks he's capable of contending, he'll be desperate again.

Technically you're right, but...

Hosmer prior to Brett (till May 30th): .261/.321/.335/.656 1 HR

Hosmer since Brett (since May 31st): .316/.353/.542/.895 8 HR

Moustakas prior: .184/.254/.309/.564 4 HR

Moustakas after: .252/.297/.360/.657 2 HR

I mean, technically Moustakas has improved, but he's still not doing well at all.

Moustakas sucks. He's not a big leaguer, never will be.

He's 24 and put up a 3.2 win season in the major leagues at age 23. So I guess he was last year.

How much of that was defense? How much of that was the first trip through the league? He was awful once teams faced him a second time and still hasn't adjusted. Also he wasn't much in the minors besides the one huge year at the launching pad in NWA.

A lot of it was defense. And yeah, he's been pretty bad this year. But I still think it's extreme to say that he isn't and will never be a big leaguer after the year he had last year at 23 years old.

It's more frustration in me talking, they're obviously my second favorite team.

I never thought Moose had an advanced enough bat to be anything more than filler.

That's where I am. I hope I am wrong, but I just don't think he will ever be an everyday guy. I thought he would at the least mash some homers, now I am not sure about that.

The Cubs have had relatively detailed talks on an extension with free-agent-to-be Matt Garza -- including years and dollars -- but Rosenthal says it remains much more likely that the starter will be dealt. There is a solid chance that a deal could be made before Garza's scheduled July 22 outing, says Rosenthal, with Chicago seemingly willing to accept less in return if a team is willing to eat more of the remainder of Garza's $10.25MM deal.

That seems contradictory to what Theo and Jed have spoken openly about in the past.

That is incredibly depressing if true.

Why would it seem that way Ken? Would it be every other media outlet saying that the Cubs have an extremely high asking price? Would it be things like their willingness to eat a huge chunk of Soriano's contract to get a better return, something that I just heard you say 5 minutes ago on my TV?

That had to be written or reported incorrectly.

Right?

Matt Garza of Fresno State and #Cubs nearly traded last night. Phones blowing up w agents & family. Is intrigued w Cardinals

This may well be Matt Garza's last start with CHC, who are said to be making progress with at least 2 teams. Deal over break appears likely.
