The NL really has a lot of putrid offenses. Hard to believe the Cubs aren't among the bottom 3 in runs/game. I can't imagine what it must be like to watch the Marlins regularly.

Nobody does

Cubs baseball went from fun to not fun very quickly.

It happens when your offense is so bad they actually win games because the pitchers start hitting.

Rizzo and Castro completely forgetting how to hit at the same time has been ugly.

Very frustrating. :-k

The Cubs are 5-5 in their last 10, in which they have a +15 run differential. In May they are 8-11 with a +14 differential. Incredible.

I do not see what is so incredible. Run differential tells you nothing over a short stretch. 3 games are making up all the difference. They also happen to be the only 3 big wins this team has had all year.

If you ignore the 3 biggest wins because, well I don't know why you'd do that, then the team is 5-11 with a -7 differential. For comparison, they started the year 5-11 with a -15 differential.

I'm not telling you to ignore it, the point is run differential over short durations tells you nothing.

this is a bad baseball team that cannot score runs because it cannot get on base. The starting pitchers are good but the bullpen sucks. This is the fourth consecutive year of this team being bad and every year people try to make up reasons to believe they actually aren't bad. I don't see the point in pretending that it is "incredible" that a team could have a bad record over a short period of time when their run differential tells them it should be a good record. Over the last six games of April they went 4-2 but were outscored by 2 runs. So what?

So why has the bad baseball team had essentially an even run differential through almost two full months?

Because the starting pitchers don't get blown out, the lineup can't score and the bullpen sucks.

The lineup is within 1/10th of a run of league average. It leads the NL in XBH.

It is bottom of the league in walks taken.

You aren't making a point.

He's not?

Do walks somehow supersede the importance of what he said?

Unless of course this is just more of the woe is me, only the Cubs, how does this happen nonsense.

It's a poorly constructed baseball team with a bad record. Nothing else matters.

My point is that the team is better than it's record, and should be treated as such going forward.

It's not. We can try to convince ourselves all we want, but at some point a bad team is just a bad team. The XBH #'s are nice, but how many of those are were hits where the guy ends up stranded because everyone who comes up after is flailing away? The hitting lineup is very, very flawed and the bullpen stinks; it's not difficult to see why it's not a good team.
