that Soriano GB should have been a base hit and an error

they did that to Castro a couple weeks ago, he ranged several steps to the right of 2B and bobbled the ball in the transition and they gave him an error; really irritating

Miles says it's a hit and an error.

don't see how it's a hit. It was a slowly hit ball that was picked up cleanly with plenty of time to throw him out and if the 1B was any good he was out by multiple steps.

The error is on the throw, the range was impressive. Thus the hit.

Why thus the hit? It was a slowly hit ground ball fielded cleanly and with ease and he would have been out by a mile. Thus, there's no justification for a hit.

He ranged pretty far to get to it. I thought it might get through off the bat.

Sure, but he got there with ease. If an OF runs very far to get to a fly ball but actually does get there and drops it, it is an error.

I'm just saying why I think it was scored how it was. I don't disagree with what you're arguing.

If the Cubs want to repeat the first inning here, that would be great.
