What if Garza were ready to come back right now? Who do you take out of the rotation?

Jackson but that won't happen because of his contract. Probably Villanueva gets screwed.

Fortunately we have at least a couple weeks to get more info, but at this point I think Shark, Jackson, and Wood should be the safe ones. I'd lean towards Villanueva going to the pen, especially if Feldman is pitching well. Helps limit Villanueva's IP and showcases Feldman(and of course, Garza) for a trade. You get a deal for either of them then you bring back Villanueva for the stretch run and he ends up around 150 IP give or take 10-15.

Feldman is the obvious choice.

He just threw a complete game and they're trying to build his value for the trade deadline.

And they wouldn't be trying to do that with Garza? Garza potentially brings you a much bigger/better haul if he can perform the rest of the way.

I'm so happy we're at that point of the year where people assume that putting any player in a position to succeed is done solely to build trade value.

Well yeah, Garza needs to be in the rotation too. Jackson is the worst performer after tonight but with all the variables Villanueva is probably the odd man out.

I actually wouldn't be shocked if they were to option Wood to Iowa(assuming he has options) and resume shopping Garza as soon as he's off the DL.

If there's really no hope of extending him, he's a trade chip that must be cashed in, and it will cost someone there spot in the rotation if for just a month or so. Whoeve it is, however needs to remain stretched out as a starter. All of these guys have been too good as starters to move to the pen and risk throwing off their routine.

I suppose someone could develope minor injury as well, be it of the legit or the not so much variety and require a short DL stint, which would last 15 days or however long it takes to trade Garza, whichever comes first.

I'm pretty sure Wood is out of options.

taking jackson out of the rotation would be the second worst option (behind samardzija), and would be an inexplicably bad move.

So apparently a good team with an over-abundance of starting pitchers wouldn't be looking to move any of them?
