Torreyes had six more PAs without a K today. I'm fascinated by him.

Same. It's kinda incredible after following guys like Jackson and Baez

I guess jersey is still in a huff about this whole Collins situation.

Explain

Go read your own posts in the NBA thread? It was a joke, given your disdain for the Collins "celebrating"

Hahahaha I figured it out like a minute after I posted my response. Somehow such sterling humor eluded me for a moment.

Also, just had a decent chuckle upon realizing who is on the opposing mound in the hot mess of an Iowa Cubs game right now.

Yes it was a stupid joke, but I'm more interested with your odd interpretation of my comments in nba thread

My interpretation was you being your usual curmudgeonly self. Nothing odd there.

VOGELBOMB. 2nd on the day. 4th on the year. There's that power.

Times like these when Javy and Vogelbach are mashing are when I dream of Giancarlo roaming RF at Wrigley.

He's been proving from day one that MWL pitching is no problem for him, the homers were always going to come.

It's amazing to actually have some power in the organization all of a sudden. Baez's is attached to some major concerns, Soler's is sort of slow to show up this spring, and Vogelbach's comes with a terrible defensive projection, but power is the rarest commodity in the game these days and it wasn't long ago that we had none of it.

Come up with some power arms now and we start looking like an elite system.

Details on Almora's first rehab game: http://www.thecubreporter.com/04292013/almora-vitters-lead-cubs-victory-over

Albert Almora laced an opposite-field RBI triple into the RF corner and then scored one out later on a sacrifice fly, Josh Vitters roped an RBI double, and Jose Rosario threw four innings of one-hit ball, helping the Cubs edge the Athletics 4-3 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #4 (formerly known as "Field #3") in Mesa, AZ.

Almora (the Cubs 2012 1st round draft pick) saw his first game action in more than six weeks, since having hand surgery on March 16th (he broke his hamate bone at Minor League Camp on March 14th). He was a DH and hit five times in today's game, once in each of the first five innings. He lined out to CF in his first AB, then bounced out to third, reached base on an E-5 (another bouncer that the A's third-baseman tried to cut-off in front of the shortstop), ripped his RBI triple (and then he tore his pants and got a pretty good "raspberry" on his left thigh sliding home on the sac fly), and (in his last AB) grounded out to short.

Josh Vitters also had a good game rehabbing too. Josh Conway and Jose Rosario both had strong 4-inning appearances. Both look like they're nearly ready to move up to A-ball.

It's certainly been a fascinating start for Torreyes. He probably isn't going to keep this low of a K rate for a whole year (stating the obvious), but if he shows continued success at a roughly similar level, he'd easily move ahead of Watkins for me, in terms of "next" at 2nd if we move on from Barney in the near future (admittedly, that says more about how I've never been completely on the Watkins train).

That said, sample sizes are really small, and he struggled in his one road series so far (which makes the home/road splits look ridiculous). This isn't to say one road series matters ... it doesn't ... but we all know that Tennessee has been the most hitter friendly park in the Southern League. I think we'll get a clearer picture on Torreyes by the end of May, with four road series, with 2 at 2 of the tougher hitting Southern League parks, Birmingham/Mississippi.

From looking over his career statistics, maybe a good comparison for Torreyes is Jeff Keppinger? Keppinger had a touch more power while Torreyes might be a little better defensively. Keppinger hasn't had the greatest of careers, but hitters with that level of production should be more valuable than they were even a few years ago due to declining offense. The nice thing about Torreyes too is that his skill set should give him a lesser chance of busting than most prospects. I'm very interested to watch him as he gets more data at AA.

Just how much does the FSL suppress hitting numbers?

I only ask to provide some context for Soler and Baez's numbers now and going forward (and because Torreyes did surprisingly poorly there last year).
