From the ever fantastic Brett at BleacherNation:

Josh Vitters (back) and Albert Almora (wrist) are in Arizona rehabbing, with Vitters playing games and Almora taking batting practice (per Arizona Phil at TCR). Vitters is essentially having his Spring Training after missing the real one with a quad injury and then subsequently injuring his back. Almora is coming back from having the hamate bone in his wrist removed following a break. He could start playing in games soon, and is expected to start his season at Kane County at some point in May.

Who are the top guys for the Ft. Wayne Tincaps besides Fried? I'll be there tonight to give a live report of how much of a fat ass Vogelbach is.

Most of the talent on that team is really in the rotation. Fried, Joe Ross, Zach Elfin, Walker Weickel. Baltz has solid power and Tissenbaum could be a good 2B, but they've got a ways to go.

Would love to hear how (hopefully not horrible) Shoulders and Contreras look in the field.

Thanks. My insights probably won't be very insightful, but I'll pass along what I see.

Scrub you will love that park if you have not been. I lived in Fort Wayne and went to games all time. I was going to go to the whole series but had a last minute work meeting out of town. Headin to Kane County next Friday.

The Tennessee Smokies game has been postponed due to rain. It will be made up tomorrow in a double header.

vogelbach was pinch hit for at designated hitter; must be some kind of injury. or he's got the runs.

I'm pretty sure he's just hanging out in the dougout, not with any trainers or anything. Not sure what the deal is.

Or that might be a different fat guy.

I was wondering that too. All 3 pitchers they've faced have been righties, so is wasn't for that.

nobody pinch hits for their dh/number 3 hitter in the 5th inning because the opposing pitcher is a lefty. come on.

Or really for any top hitters in the minors, right?

I'd assume they'd WANT Vogelbach to face LHP.

Maples pitched again in EXST today. 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R (earned), 2 BB, 5 K, 1 WP. 50 pitches (31 strikes).

In an intrasquad game on 4/22 Maples went 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 48 pitches (30 strikes).

Yeah, I was shocked how nice that park was. There used to be a low-A team in my hometown and they used a crappy old high school field.

My analysis of the Kane County game:

Rock Shoulders is pretty bad at 1B. I don't know where he's usually played in college/minors, but he just didn't seem used to 1B. He came off the bag twice for pretty decent throws, one of them he was still able to make the tag. He seemed athletic enough that if he can improve his footwork, etc. he could play passable 1B. All the balls that came to him were pretty routine, but he handled them fine.

Contreras just took over for Vogelbach at DH and never played the field.

Not sure what happened with Vogelbach. I was sitting behind the home dugout so I could see into KC's. I was just getting back to my seat for his 2nd AB, so maybe I missed something there, but I just saw him hanging out in the dugout the rest of the game, and he seemed fine. But the 2 times he did bat, he seemed in a different league than all the other hitters, both teams. There was a distinct difference in his bat speed, etc. I have no scouting experience or anything close to it, so I'm not sure how really to describe it, but you could just see a big difference between him and everyone else in the game.

As I'm sure everyone knows, Candelario has a fantastic eye. I don't think he ever really made solid contact, which was disappointing, but I was really impressed with his patience.

Is Yao-Lin Wang the guy who was closing in Peoria last year?

Yes.

Apparently MiLB.com was wrong - Austin Kirk started today.
