I dunno why Girardi has this reputation of working in young players. With the Marlins, he had no choice. That's all they had.

How is your avatar so huge? I thought the board has caps on avatar dimensions?

2 weeks ago that wasn't a thought in my mind either.

2 days ago I didn't think too much about it. I'm just glad it was for legitimate concerns like player development and his dynamic with some of the players, amongst other things, and not the ridiculous notion of not being able to manage a bullpen.

With the Yankees, young players constantly rode the bench & barring some injury to the veteran blocking them, they stayed on the bench. Dellin Betances is one of their top relief prospects & since being called up September 1st, he pitched 5 innings, most of which was when they were already eliminated from the playoffs 4 weeks after being called up.

No thanks to Girardi.

I'm not convinced either way on Girardi, but that doesn't seem to be a fair criticism. Aside from the Betances example(which isn't a very good one, Betances' star has dimmed and in September the Yankees needed to win every game possible), what players had their development hurt by Girardi? As much as you can say he had no choice with the Marlins, he very rarely had the chance to develop a young player with the Yankees, given their roster construction and (lack of) farm system. From a glance it looks like guys like Cano, Gardner, and Melky were given ample opportunities to perform.

No idea. I just selected the avatar, didn't tinker with the dimensions or anything.

Why is bullpen management a ridiculous notion. He made a bad bullpen worse with his usage patterns. There are dozens of examples of it over the course of his tenure. I didn't think he would get canned, but the reasons for doing so are many and varied, and legitimate.

Yankees job looks like crap for the next couple of years, but its likely Girardi sees the Cubs job the same way. My guess is someone like Davey Martinez is next.

Theo saying this needed to be done now that our best prospects are going to be young major leaguers "soon."

Shoot, it's not working for me.

This is going to be the spin now, I've heard it several places. Sveum had to be fired because Epstein and Co. have done an even better job than anyone imagined and we have to move more quickly than they thought two years ago.

So not only is having to fire his first manager pick not proof that he made a mistake, it's proof of his brilliance. :banghead:

I did not hear it, but apparently Theo said something to the effect of, "There needs to be love before there is tough love."

I look forward to having to pay two manages being added to the list of reasons why payroll is down.

That was the first thing that I thought of too. Girardi will cost >$3 million per year for a minimum of 3 years.

What the what?

I didn't hear it nor did I see it on Twitter, but Bernstein said it right after they cut away from the PC.

It kind of makes sense given Sveum's statements to the media regarding "the core".

Yeah, he said that. Also said that players were getting different messages from different sources in the organization.

Theo is hinting that this will be a quick hire, and that he wants a manager with major league management experience. To me, that rules out Ausmus.

Agreed. Seems like he's set his sights on Girardi.

The Yankees job is worse than crap. If they lose out on Cano they're completely screwed. Rivera and Pettitte are retiring. Jeter is more or less toast it would seem. A-Rod is probably gonna be gone for 2 years. Tex is returning from wrist surgery and has been declining for a few years now. Nearly half their roster will be free agents. Cano, Kuroda, Granderson, Hughes, Youkilis, Chamberlain, Reynolds, Hafner, etc... not that all of them are good, but man they are in awful shape. And this FA class is not impressive enough for them to exploit to fix everything. An even then they're trying to avoid the luxury tax so they can't go crazy... and if they do, they're ogin to have to go crazy on their own players before the ycan attempt to sign the Tanakas or the Choo's of the FA class. The only players they have returning next year that they can count on being out there and contributing regularly are Alfonso Soriano and C.C. Sabathia. Everyone else is either a health risk, a free agent, or a high priced bench player.

The Yankees are in awful shape, and Girardi is probably smart enough to recognize it.
