PECOTA thinks the Cubs best hitter will begin the year in AAA. More importantly 2nd place in the division and 1 game out of the Wild Card 2 slot. That's with 199 PAs from Kris Bryant.

Notable things:

- Bryant projected at 2 WAR in 199 PA. Soler, 2 in 583 PA. Baez, 0.9 in 520 PA.

- The catchers combine for 2.1, Rizzo 3.8, Castro 2.7.

- Jackson projected to lead the team in starts (33), and put up a -0.7, while Hendricks is projected to make only 8 starts and put up 1.0.

- Lester at only 2.2 in 29 starts. Arrieta 1.1 in 29 starts.

- Projected for 82 wins.

From glancing through that post, it seems like they have a lot that is holding our projection back.

Soler should be rated higher, I think (hope) Bryant gets more at bats than that, no way Jackson is on the team at the end of the year if he's sucking like that...let alone 33 starts, Lester seems low, Hendricks should get more than 8 starts.

I'm excited for baseball for the first time since 08 :yahoo:

Pecota likes Bryant more than McCutcheon so let's temper expectations...and McCutcheons comps are Willie Mays, Frank Robinson and Hank Aaron...of course Bryants number one comp is Stanton whose number one comp is Mickey Mantle.

Interesting, Wyers was essentially saying that it had to be rebuilt from scratch based on how poor of a job Silver did constructing it. If he still posts here I'd love to here his thoughts.

Here's the link I'm referring to.

it was built in excel and was really complex, so that has a lot of baggage, but i don't think anyone there is saying that he did a "poor job" of constructing it. for a non-programmer, that's the only way of building something like that

ZiPS is still run out of Excel, I believe.

All of them are the same. Gutless conservative underprojections.

From Logan Watkins' Twitter:

"Devastated to say that I tore my Achilles today working out in Arizona. Hard to put into words how sad I am that I won't be apart of the Great season the Cubs are prepared to have."

Well, there's a clear openning at Iowa 2b for you, Baez.
