I think the only one with options left is Hendricks.

Straily too.

So...

Rotation:

Lester

Arrieta

Hammel

Wood/Doubront/Wada

Hendricks

Pen:

Turner (swingman)

Wada/Wood/Doubront (LOOGY)

AAA:

Straily

Gone (?):

Jackson

Wood/Doubront

I wonder if they still believe the peripherals on Jackson will eventually have performance to match. I also wonder if they think they can get more of a 2013 performance from Wood instead of 2014.

I'm not a big fan of the back half of our rotation.

I still think about this exchange Sullivan talked about after the Lester deal

After I congratulated a top Cubs’ executive on the Lester deal in the hotel lobby late Tuesday night, he already had moved on.

“Yeah, I’d like one more,” he said.

“An outfielder?” I said.

“One more starter,” he replied.

Led me to believe that the Cubs FO was still targeting a pitcher, and I keep waiting for that to happen again but the only names left on the market that the Cubs would probably hold any interest in are Shields and Scherzer. Granted it could've just been that executive's personal feelings, and it likely was, but it still stuck with me and made me think the tires were still spinning ion the FO for another pitcher.

Wada. As far as starting pitchers go, not so much options... though I'd think he has options given he's only ever been called up to the majors once.

Forgot about Wada...Updated my last post to account for him.

I know a lot of people on this board probably go to the convention, but I honestly couldn't have any less interest in going. I would have to actually get paid to attend something like this. I'm willing to listen to arguments, but to be surrounded by thousands of people scrounging to get autographs or selfies with 20-something year old meathead athletes is not really something I find to be super attractive, especially when the actual informative stuff (stadium renovation news, etc...) is always on the news anyway.

It's crowded and hard to see/do anything except for the vendor area, the opening ceremonies are on TV/Radio, and any interesting news from the breakout sessions is reported in real time. Like I said before, if someone gave me a free ticket, I'd go but I wouldn't go out of my way to go.

I do enjoy the uptick in Cubs talk/reporting during the weekend though.

pretty much this except add a qualifier of "if nobody else was going to be there or you could get rid of all the weirdos, thus paring out 90% of the crowd" to the "if someone gave me a free ticket, I'd go" part.

at this point, the opening ceremonies are on TV and the interesting panels are going to be streamed if i feel like thinking about baseball on a terrible february day, so why the hell would i go? cubs bingo? autographs (lol)?

You can definitely get the gist of the Convention without setting foot there, especially if you aren't into autographs or actually meeting the players/staff. That said, it's still fun to attend, you don't get 100% of the info from news that you could in sessions, and hearing the news 2nd hand you often don't quite get the same information or in the same detail. You can also very easily avoid the autograph/photo scene entirely without any problem, it's segmented entirely from the sessions. I'm going Saturday because I got a free pass, and I'd say the best years to go are when there's new staff to hear talk. 2012 was especially great because the front office and field coaching staff were brand new, and this year hearing Maddon talk should be interesting too.

Having media credentials when there was pretty cool.
