1) North has posted here on several occasions

2) That post is interesting and insightful regardless of the name attached to it

3) Please try to not be so transparently petty because you disagreed with him(see #1) on a different topic

Nobody gives a [expletive] what some random poster says from a different board.

It's a poster that has made some very compelling posts here on several previous occasions, so...some people do give a [expletive].

He hates North's take on Junior Lake.

Didn't we go through this with Garza? When a pitcher has a big breakthrough on the back of throwing more of a breaking pitch (does a cutter count?), I worry about his ability to sustain it for more than a season. Edited by Hairyducked Idiot

ahh yes, that old staple of a breaking ball, the cut fastball

It's not literally a breaking ball, I know, but it's a pitch being thrown in a slightly different way to add movement and has been associated with arm problems.

Has the cutter been associated with arm problems? I know the Orioles didn't want Bundy to throw his partially because they think it takes velocity away from the normal fastballs, but have they been proven to lead to injuries? The movement is created more by the grip than anything, unlike sliders and curves.

I was thinking cutters were associated with stress on the elbow, but if I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time.

If it's thrown the wrong way, with lots of wrist twisting. But I think that's more a problem at lower levels when pitchers mess around and don't know proper technique.

I think a cutter is a pretty safe pitch. It's a fast ball with a different grip. Rivera threw dozens almost every night for like 20 years. Rick Rueshel threw a cutter or sinker every pitch. Same with Maddux. Edited by CubinNY

Please point me to the articles saying the cut fastball leads to arm problems.

I know the idiot pitching coach for the Orioles hates the cutter and made Bundy stop throwing his. This was before he ever had any injury issues. I'm sure if you google it you can find the articles on him stating his distaste.

I kind of remember reading something like this back when pitchers began throwing it more. Specifically, when Esteban Loiaza was awesome for the White Sox that one year. I think the theory was based on the fact that a lot of pitchers lost velocity on their 4-seamer as a result of throwing more cutters, but I could be wrong. Anyhow, I haven't seen anything on it recently.

The cutter was supposed to be more safe than the slider, less torque. However, I think that the number of times they are throwing the cutter per game changes that idea. They may have thrown 12-15 hard sliders a game, and now some guys are throwing as many cutters as fastballs.

Mariano was an anomaly, using him as an example is like using Nolan Ryan and his 300 innings a year to show that huge inning totals don't hurt anyone.

There is too much Cake Boss in my life. I walk by the damn store every day. The hotel across the street from my office has a couple of his cakes on display for some reason, and now he's getting into my Cubs following.

Buddy is killing independent jersey cubs fan.
