27 pitch 1st inning to get through 4 Cub hitters. That is awesome.

Ewwwwww, Dave Sappelt starting.

Gotta keep that lefty vs righty match up that so many people just love!!!

Sappelt is garbage. I've seen enough of him. I don't care if he hits RH, LH, or with his feet.

Platooning is a good idea. Platooning with Sappelt is not.

LOL. Agreed!!

Platoon is good if you have 2 capable players doing it. The point I was making the other day w Nate is that he is so hot, why not play him vs some lefties. This team is going nowhere, wouldn't hurt at all.

Well, likely because he's not very good against lefties. Might as well see if the other side of the platoon can get hot and let Schierholtz keep mashing against righties since he's likely to not do any better.

Yeah, he's probably riding an all-time high. No need to put him in a position he's likely to not succeed. The more important half of the platoon is working. Sappelt is not as bad as he has looked.

A game or 2 of him trying to hit a LHP would not hurt. I live in the Bay Area, but don't follow the Giants too much. I know some fans that said Nate never really got a chance to show he could play every day. Think he had a couple of injuries along the way.

Sappelt blows. Sorry, I just don't see him being an even average player.

Yes, Sappelt stinks, but isn't he playing CF? I don't think we want Schierholtz manning that spot.

Hairston would move from RF to CF in that situation.

Do we really want Hairston in CF? As much of a brick [expletive]-house as he is I just assumed he could only man the corners passably at best.

I get that. It's not like Hairston is killing it either. Guys, all I'm saying is it would hurt absolutely nothing to let him play vs a lefty or 2. I just wanna see if we have a guy that could maybe play every day down the road.

I get that, but this far into his career it's unlikely he's a diamond in the rough. You want to try and get the other guys going so they can contribute, and sitting them isn't going to help that.

He's played at least 10 games in CF every year since 2007. I haven't scouted him or anything, but the defensive metrics don't hate him there.

Jeff Baker's double almost hit the 368 sign in left center. Maybe the replay angle wasn't the best, but did anyone else think it could have been caught? Sappelt seemed to give up on it. Edited by Ballgame64

Gameday is absolutely drunk tonight. No idea what it's doing.

Probably so, but I'd just like to see them take a chance. Like I said, it can't hurt anything. This team doesn't look like it's gonna be any better than last year, so I'm fine with rolling the dice a little.
