I can onky assume something is haywire with their Twitter account- But the Smokies just tweeted Jokisch just hit 96 in the 9th inning.......If thats true, all I can say is WTF?

It would had to have been McNutt as he pitched the 9th.

Yeah, they just corrected it. It was McNutt.

Confused the hell out of me for a minute.

They sent a tweet correcting themselves. They did indeed mean McNutt hit 96.

Well that's certainly good news. I hope he can be a bullpen contributor sometime this year

I know that I've been burned by many a PCL slugger in the past, but I'm really hoping that Ryan Sweeny is given a call up sooner than later. As I said in I believe yesterday's thread, his big league track record makes him very different from Hoff/Fox/LaHair. I'm not saying that I expect him to be a Babe Ruth, but I do think that he can do what he did as a par timer between, I believe 2009-2011. That would certainly be an upgrade over anything on our bench.

My assumption is that his minor league deal gives him the option of opting out if not called up at a certain time. If this is the case, if it comes down to it I'd rather risk losing Sappelt (I think he's out of options) than Sweeny. Sweeny does play all over the OF, and he, Soriano, DeJesus, Schierholtz, and Hairston gives us a nice OF mix. It's just too bad that none of those guys can spell at 1st or 3rd here and there so we could just dump Clevenger.

I'm glad to see you haven't changed.

Not sure that a guy with a career 5.9 WAR in limited duty really constitutes waiting until 28 to figure it out. And his past big league track record might also be considered along with the 24 fantastic AAA at bats. Add in the fact that he was a top 50 prospect once upon a time, and he looks like exactly the type of player that Theo likes to stock up on.

Perhaps that's why he's in AAA in Theo's organization then.

In the interim, there's no lineup that Sweeney cracks at the MLB level. He's behind Soriano, DeJesus, and Schierholtz against RHP and everyone against LHP. There's no reason to be talking about calling him up, there's no need, no urgency, and it's been one got dang week of the minor league season.

My main point is if his minor league contract has an out clause, I'd rather keep him, even if it means having 3 LH outfielders. Everyone seems to ignore that beyond his AAA start, he has a nice little big league track record as a 4th OF.

I'm glad we have Sweeney, but he's not worth shifting your roster just to keep on a AAA roster. He's a free agent after another few months on an MLB roster. There's no need for his skillset on the MLB roster. Putting him on would require removing a player of similar caliber(except with age and many years of team control on his side) whose skillset there is a need for at the MLB level. It doesn't make any sense.
