craig, I agree (that Baez's future did not impact AA's roster to start the year), I was just noting it because someone here speculated that they left an opening at Tennessee for Baez (which I find an unlikely decision this early ... I think AzPhil also had a similar thought).

Wouldn't surprise me if Whitenack is back in XST. Sounds like his arm strength is really down this spring.

I think Whitenack can't be on a roster until he gets through the waiver wire process after he was DFAed.

Cubs announce Indians have claimed RHP Robert Whitenack.

That sort of sucks that Whitenack got picked up. I'm really curious what happened, because there was enough evidence he was in the 90's last year, and this spring, almost all the reports had him mid-80's.

Whitenack has apparently been claimed by Cleveland. Wow, big surprise.

Funny, they grab our rehab Whitenack, we grabbed their rehab Rondon. Their advantage in that they can send him down, we can't do the same. Our advantage, of course, in that Rondon appears to have an excellent arm now, whereas at least as of this spring Whitenack does not.

Thanks for the Wade correction. I missed him somehow on Iowa's roster.

The last I read on Moscoso was at the end of March he'd been sent to Iowa but I don't see anything about him.

Cardenas has no online updates since he was called up late in the season. I didn't see him in spring training so I am assuming he's no longer a part of the organization?

It's not the ultimate authority but MiLB.com lists Cardenas as a free agent.

Cardenas became a minor league free agent at the start of the offseason. Nobody picked him up. Surely somebody will give him another minor league deal.

Nothing really new with Paniagua: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/carlos-martinez-arrives-juan-carlos-paniagua-still-waiting-for-visa/

Cubs righthander Juan Carlos Paniagua remains in the Dominican Republic as he awaits his visa.

...

In Paniagua’s case, the Consulate is asking for further documentation from his younger siblings, who were not declared in the Dominican Republic.

...

While Martinez’s situation has been straightened out and he is now in the U.S., Paniagua is still waiting in the Dominican Republic. Ultimately Paniagua, who received his visa last year and played in the U.S. after signing for $1.5 million in July, is likely to receive his visa and play at some point this year, but there’s no timetable for his arrival.

Apparently, Paniagua's visa issues are such that he may end up pitching in the DSL this summer.

Unless you're getting that from elsewhere, that looks like just speculation from Arizona Phil. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Yea, that's what I was going off of. I guess I should've been more clear.

In this case, I believe Paniagua doesn't have questions about his own information any longer. I think the holdup is more about his family right now.

Maybe I'm reading waaaay too much between the lines here, but I took all that to mean that they can't confirm whether or not he's using a sibling's identity.

Since he changed his name but not his birthday, I wonder if the consulate think he's using a brother's identity or information which is why they have requested information from his family.

Couldn't they have just kept in in Arizona over the winter? :-"

Only if the visa was created for that length of time, iirc.

Different topic, but interesting. Frandy de la Rosa is in Arizona, competing to play SS with Francisco Sanchez. It'd be pretty indicative of his talent if he skips the DSL as a 17 year old.
