This reminds me of a game against the Reds 03 or 04? I got off the school bus at a friend's house and went into his living room and turned the game on. Cubs were down (11-10 I think) in the bottom of the 9th. As soon as we turned it on Sosa homered, and then Alou homered to win it. My friend's mom looked at me like I was a nut job when she saw my reaction.

Edit: 11-10 was the final. http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=240416116

Edit 2: McRae's appearance reminded me of this game, which I recently discussed in KC with McRae and he acted like he didn't remember it. How do you not remember hitting a grand slam at the front end of a back-to-back-to-back? 9 HR total in this game...

i was at the 11-10 game. i had 11th row seats behind the reds dugout, but a friend of mine bought 12 seats in section 140. i gave the two tickets i had to my parents. my dad said that was the most enjoyable cubs gave he's been to during his 60 years of going to wrigley. put a smile on my face.

I'm all confused now... was it Wood that got ejected in a loss?

I remember Dusty going insane and flailing around vividly.

I know it was CB Bucknor who squeezed Wood.

I believe it was the same series in early '04. Think the Cubs were up in the 9th inning and Dusty let Wood pitch the 9th, promptly gave up the lead after questionable calls, and then boom-goes Dusty and Wood.

The day before. Eric Cooper.

Different games in the same series. Dusty got ejected because he double switched and then they called Ramon Martinez out after he doubled for batting out of order, and that was C.B. Bucknor. That was also the game referenced earlier where Sosa and Alou went back to back in the 9th. That was the Friday game.

The Saturday game when Wood got ejected for arguing balls and strikes with Eric Cooper.

This is all coming back to me. What an exciting/aggravating series for mid-April.

Joe Kmak? How did I miss that guy existing?

Watching that celebration brought back a bunch of names I hadn't heard in forever. Kmak, Bullinger, Foster, Servais..

Seeing Scott Bullett was my favorite...I thought for sure he or Ozzie Timmons would be a stud. If not them, Pedro Valdes or Robin Jennings.

but we already kind of did this in that obscure 90's Cubs thread from last spring.

Shawon Dunston was actually pretty terrible at baseball. I hadn't really looked at his stats very much prior to today. He didn't do anything particularly well. ~72% on stolen bases. I guess you could say that about a lot of Cubs from the 90s.

Chip's call from that finish was my voicemail greeting for weeks after. It was especially sweet given that I am surrounded by Cincinnati fans. Of course, they would play a huge role in the collapse a few months later.

I will always be fond of the 1995 team. They played terrifically for the first month or so, flatlined from Memorial Day to Labor Day then went on a long winning streak to finish in the playoff conversation at the season's last weekend. It was absolute bliss in comparison to the disastrous 1994 MLB season.

i went to the last game of the season. i had made a sign that said go giants...but by the time we went to the game, IIRC, it was too late. the guy behind me had no idea why the back of my sign said that.

i have a lot of memories of that season.

the gonzalez/servais trade.

the zeile trade.

todd haney getting called up and hitting a HR in his first game.

the shawon walkoff.

i think there was another shawon walkoff too.

i think howard johnson had some big hits. i thought he was awesome. sort of. i was 12.

the castillo near no-no.

crazed fan attacks randy myers

other stuff

He really shouldn't have remained in the lead role after the second stroke in 1994. Of course, by all accounts he was so protective of his spot that he would have walked away before ceding his position.

I miss Harry. He and Stoney were the perfect booth to me.

I agree, except for the presence of Harry Caray and Steve Stone

Yuuuuuuuuuup. Harry was tolerable until the stroke in '87, and even before that you'd only really hear the good announcer side of him for a few innings most games before he had too many drinks. Stone always sucked. Even as a kid I couldn't stand him; he sounded like the evil adult from every shitty kids movie ever made.

Hahahahahahaah! I thought the exact same thing. It's annoying how many of these clips you gotta watch muted.
