Blue Jackets come back (again), this time in OT against Anaheim.

Sole possession of 8th seed!

Wings loss to Calgary. I think they should just go ahead and call it now. Let Blue Jackets and Stars fight it out

Anyways, I think this is a terrible idea to flood the market with outdoor hockey games.

I am currently watching Sportscenter drone on about next years NFL schedule for 10 mins. I am sure we will get at least 10 mins of NFL draft talk also. This while actual baseball, basketball and hockey seasons are going. WAAAAY Overexposing the NFL sure does not seem to be hurting them.

Go Jackets!

And this is no reflection at all on who I would rather see in the first round.

Shoot, the Jackets could climb all the way to #6 if they keep winning.

Tough game @LA tonight after an OT game @ANA

Can't decide who has a tougher schedule between the Stars and BJs. They both play good teams that may not really care about playing them tough. It would be fun (as a fan on neither team) if it came down to their game next week.

Of course it would be even more fun if the Stars and Wings game 48 was for the playoffs and then went to a shoot out. Of course that would have to be the worst way to end a season for one of those teams.

ITT: Derwood becomes a hockey fan

I've been a casual fan for years. Grew up on the Penguins, watched every game of the Lemieux/Jagr Stanley Cup seasons.

Never really got into the Blackhawks like I did other Chicago teams, though I rooted for them in their Cup year.

Columbus has been so supremely bad, that they were hard to cheer for until recently.

Do you also root for the Patriots, Duke basketball, Alabama football, and the Miami Heat?

Just kidding. Mostly!

Not sure why you'd extract that from my post

because you rooted for Pittsburgh's near dynasty and then the Blackhawks in their championship year.

And now hopping on the Columbus bandwagon. But, again, just kidding.

I grew up in Pennsylvania, and the Penguins were the team on TV

I lived in Chicago for 12 years and adopted most of those pro teams as my teams of choice.

My college affiliations haven't changed

Are you really lumping Columbus into that group? Anyone getting on the BJs bandwagon now can pretty much pick their seat.

Columbus is not really an up and coming team either. Not like the Hawks from 5 yrs ago or anything. I think them being surprisingly good is kind of cool, but I do not see them becoming an elite NHL team for 5+ yrs anytime soon.

I don't think anyone thinks they are. It would take some free agents actually wanting to sign here to give them a chance at "elite".

But they're young, and they have Bobrovsky. Their defense is very good (10th in goal against, 9th in penalty killing).

But their offense sucks (27th in goals scored, 30th in power play)

If they could get a real goal scorer (or three), they'd be a perennial contender

Jets and Isles are playing an amazing game this afternoon. The energy at that barn in Winnipeg is second to none. And for Ladd and Buff I hope they sneak in to the playoffs.

I wouldn't be so sure. He'll porbably win the Rocket Richard trophy so they won't feel bad about giving the MVP to someone else. Also, a lot people just plain don't like him, whereas Crosby is the face of the sport. If Crosby plays this week and scores even 1 goal he wins the MVP.

I find the race for the 8th seed in the West very interesting, obviously partially because it will effect the Hawks.

7. Minnesota 51 points (3 GR)

8. Columbus 51 points (2 GR)

--------------------------

9. Detroit 48 points (4 GR)

10. Dallas 48 points (3 GR)

11. Phoenix 46 points (4 GR)

Phoenix is probably out, but they play Detroit tonight and have a chance to really make it tough to get into the playoffs. Here are the remaining schedules.

MIN - v LA, v EDM, @ COL

CLB - @ DAL, v NAS

DET - v PHX, v LA, v NAS, @ DAL

DAL - @ SJ, v CLB, v DET

PHX - @ DET, v SJ, v COL, @ ANA

Min- ought to get 3 points from their remaining schedule

CLB- will get at least 2 points

Det- a lot will depend on whether LA still cares at that point, They get 2 for beating Nash but that last game may be a 1 game playoff to get in

Dal- If they win out they're in.

PHX- A lot of things have to go they're way to have any chance. They're next loss eliminates them

Nashville is the X factor. Do they have enough pride to play the spoiler?

The league should review that and issue a fine. That's a good way to get a serious back or tailbone injury.
