I think there's going to be a drop off next year since their two best players this season will be in the NFL. If their other stud offensive tackle turns pro too, it'll be fun to see how much of a drop off Manziel will have.

Manziel isn't going pro just yet. Jake Matthews is coming back for his senior year. We'll be fine on the OLine. That was Sherman's specialty and we have plenty of talent there, including another of the Matthews clan expected to take over at center for departing senior Patrick Lewis.

Defense will be a bigger concern for us next year.

I was referring to Luke Joeckel and Damontre Moore.

I know. I don't agree with them being our two best players from this past season. Both were excellent, Joeckel especially, and I hate to see them go but anyone who says Manziel was not our best player this year is just doing so in an attempt to look like they have some super special football knowledge that the average fan does not possess.

I don't have some super special football knowledge, it just doesn't take much to believe a left tackle who has a chance to be the #1 overall pick this year is actually the best player on Texas A&M.

Which of those teams would you take even money odds nd would be beat on a neutral field?

Huge sums on South Carolina, fsu, Clemson, and ksu

I think south Carolina would beat down nd and would favor fsu, Clemson (who was a seen pt favorite vs gamecocks in rivalry week) and ksu would probably also would be more likely to win on a neutral field.

Or maybe it was actually the Heisman Trophy winner? Take Luke Joeckel off this team and you would most likely see some drop off but I doubt our record changes much, if at all. Take Manziel off this team and we probably win 7-8 games. I love Joeckel and realize that he is an amazing football player, but his type are more common than Johnny's.

Heisman = Most popular QB or RB

1st Draft Pick = Best overall player

He hasn't been drafted #1 yet. And best player for the NFL doesn't mean best player for college. And who's to say that Manziel won't be drafted #1 overall when he's actually eligible for the draft?

I'll say he won't be.

i think it's safe to say that he won't be

Manziel doesn't project well for the NFL - I'll be surprised if he's a first rounder. As you said, that doesn't mean he isn't a good college player. But Joeckel is better.

Hes already a cultural phenomenon which definately impacts the draft. Considering Sumlin had Case Keenum obliterate the major passing records, I dont see why manziel cant be a heisman candidate 2-3 more times. Fanbases will riot when franchises pass on him. He wont go #1 overal but baring injury or a deviation from his likely career path, he will be picked early in the 1rst round. Looking at this years QB stock, he might go top first half of the first round if eligable.

Luke joeckel will be a better pro but a&m is not losing their best player. Any college coach would swap a future all-pro tackle for a world class college playmaker with bad pro projections.

And that's an understatement. The odds are very high that Manziel will get arrested again before being drafted anywhere in the 1st round. Probably first 3 rounds.

All of you guaranteeing Manziel won't get drafted #1 are the same ones who laughed at A&M before the season started. Is he a #1 pick now? Not a chance, but he's not entering the draft now. I'm not guaranteeing it or predicting it, but I'm not going to proclaim that it is not even possible when he does enter the draft. All I know is that I wouldn't bet against this kid.

Hes short and slight, had a low release and played for a mid-major. Comparison was made as evidence of Sumlin’s style favoring a QB statistically. Manziel is already a huge star and will likely continue to put of massive numbers in the SEC and possibly contend for a national title and another Heisman. This will push up his draft stock. Assuming his production remains somewhat consistent he will be a top ten pick. Christian Ponder was taken 12th overall and is a success story.

no, you mentioned sumlin's work with keenum as evidence that manziel will go high when keenum wasn't even drafted. if anything, it proves the opposite of your point.

I think he mentioned Keenum as evidence that Sumlin's system will cause Manziel to put up huge numbers throughout his career. So by the time he enters the draft, it's possible he could have multiple Heismans with huge numbers for years in the SEC, causing him to get overdrafted. So basically Tebow 2.0.

we didn't care about them enough to laugh at them. you must be mistaking this board for another.

How'd that work out for you?
