what player in the last 24 years did ND have that should have won?

Rocket

He lost a close vote to Ty Detmer. Not an egregious outcome (compared to many other votes in the last 25 years)

Detmer was single-handedly losing a game literally as he was being awarded the Heisman and he was losing it to Hawaii. Then he submitted a gigantic turd in the bowl game to top it off. Maybe not egregious but certainly incorrect.

I should note that I'm not arguing Rocket lost the Heisman because of ND bias (although I've read that there was some bitterness towards him because he was talking about leaving for the draft back when that was a big deal - though that's about him, not his school).

It's not like he lost to Danny Wuerffel

Heisman Trophy Winners by School

Notre Dame: 7

Ohio State: 7 (Note: Though Ohio State has won seven trophies, the school has just six winners, as Archie Griffin won the award twice)

USC: 7

Oklahoma: 5

Army: 3

Florida: 3

Michigan: 3

Nebraska: 3

Auburn: 3

Winners by school in the last 24 years.

ND: 0

I've never disputed that there was an ND bias. It's long since swung the other way. Holding on to this belief as if we're stuck in the 70s when very few teams traveled as much as ND with the amount of success and popularity of ND is foolish to put it gently.

I feel your pain, Illinois also has none in the last 24 year and I personally am sick of the haters holding us down.

Are you guys trying to miss the point? I asked for evidence of recent pro-ND bias, Banedon cited Heisman winner totals and I pointed out ND hasn't won one since Tim Brown. Hard to argue Heisman voting has favored ND recently with that fact.

A quick glance shows that Ismail, Quinn and Brooks were the only ND guys in the top 10 of voting at all since Brown. It's not like ND is annually getting guys to NY and getting shut out by the evil anti-ND voters. ND simply hasn't had many Heisman caliber players in the last quarter century

oh my [expletive] god. I DIDN'T BRING UP THE HEISMAN, BANEDON DID.

you guys can get pissed at me for talking about ND all the time, but this is the stupid [expletive] I'm dealing with.

Te'o obviously (he's the best player on the best defense for the #1 team and also my favorite player in some time). If the award were truly for the best player that plays with integrity I think it's pretty clear that he wins since there aren't any outstanding offensive candidates. It's never gone to a solely defensive player so he's not likely to win.

1. I don't pay enough attention to know who anyone's teams are outside of a few people. The ND/Big 10 lovers are all jumbled together in my mind since there are so many of you here. I do know that SSR has a huge hard on for me, for some unknown reason.

2. Plays with integrity? WTF does that even mean?

The Heisman "annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity." Straight from the horse's mouth. If you don't like it, take it up with them.

Lol, this may be the first time that anybody has actually cared about the playing with integrity clause in the Heisman mission statement. Within the last 10 years, the Heisman has been won by Cam Newton, Troy Smith and Reggie Bush.

Who did Detmer lose to in the bowl game?

Tebow's personality was often cited in his support.

Did I miss the Troy Smith scandal?

Didn't he take like $500 from a booster once and had to miss a game and a half or something in 2005? Not a huge deal but IIRC it was a big reason they lost to Texas, which ended up being the difference in who played in the national title game that year.

I've put several names to the contingent. Also ND only became #1 bc every other team lost and some are still voting other teams ahead of them (in some cases, multiple teams). As I said, the fact that the lone undefeated team is #1 isn't evidence of bias or not. It's the default position. If you don't want to substantively discuss something, why make a ridiculous comment at all?

Oh that's easy: because the mythical anti-ND media horde is as ridiculous as alleged East Coast bias.

if teo became the first defender to win the award, we might as well just stop caring about it (if anyone still does in the first place.) I know LBs are sort of getting phased out of college football, but god he just seems so forgettable most of the time.

Don't worry...the anti-ND bias in the media will prevent him from becoming one of the highest finishing pure defenders ever.

I assume he means first solely defensive player and is eliminating Woodson for returning kicks and catching a couple of TD passes in 97.

Have we gotten to the part yet where everyone realizes the Heisman trophy and its voting procedure is both predictable and stupid?

Here are the criteria of a Heisman-worthy player:

1. Best QB on the #1 team

2. Best QB on a top 10 team

3. Best skill player on the #1 team

4. Best player on the #1 team

This season, the options are so limited they've resorted to a freshman #2 and a defensive #4.

Yeah, I meant solely defensive player. I was a huge woodson fan when i was a kid (i can still see that one armed pick perfectly in my mind)

Still waiting for all those pro-ND media members you were touting.

Lou Holtz, Digger Phelps, Michael Golic?

I'm jumping into this convo without knowing anything about it so don't mind me.

Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser, who I have heard on multiple occasions say that college football is better if Notre Dame is good and that if Notre Dame went undefeated (this was when Bama, Oregon and KSt were undefeated) that they should be in the title game no questions asked. There's two prominent ones. I'm sure there are plenty others.

Please don't. You bitch about me discussing ND 2 days ago and then jump into a discussion with frankly a stupid addition.
