From the WTF files: Didi Gregorius has a UCL issue that will keep him out at the start of the year. Kevin Towers said today they didn't give him a physical, prior to trading for him.

Towers is unfathomably bad.

Samardzija turned down a 5 year extension sometime this offseason. Sounds like he wants more $$$.......

Jeff Samardzija turned down a five-year extension from the Chicago Cubs this offseason, though he still wants to be a Cub for life.

“We were talking, and we both have the same interest in mind,” Samardzija said Tuesday before the first spring workout. “We both want me to be here and both want me to be part of this team for a long time. When we feel like we’re on the same page with that, we’ll get it done. That was offseason talk. That’s what happened at the end of the year. It’s early right now. I still haven’t proven myself to where I want to be as a player. I was happy last year but I don’t want to stay there. I want to improve and get better.

Samardzija said “it doesn’t really make much sense” to talk contract after one year in the rotation. With the price of starting pitching soaring, he stands to significantly increase his value with one or two more good years under his belt. Samardzija won’t be a free agent until after the 2015 season.

“I’d rather have some more concrete stats and some concrete evidence on what’s going on,” he said. “Obviously, we’ll know better what the future is going on. But I think a big thing is I’m a healthy dude and I work hard and want to put as much on my side of the court as possible.”

Can't exactly blame him, but I'm sure we just missed out a pretty nice sweetheart deal.

So much for that $100 million contract he wanted

in 2 years cleveland is going to seattlemariner it and offer him a long extension

BEFORE THEY LOOK AT HIS ELBOW

When the expert trolls are whiffing, you may want to hold back.

Says the Grand High Troll Lord Almighty himself.

From some reason, coming from you, this strikes me as hilarious.

Their offseason moves and strategy has been one of the most puzzling things I've seen in a long time

On the bright side, there's finally a market for my "I Gave Up One of the Top Pitching Prospects in Baseball, and All I Have to Show For it Is a 30 Year Old Middle Reliever" bumber stickers.

This latest little tangent of yours is straight up HOF-worthy. Somewhere davearm2 is proud.

I'm confused how this is my tangent.

No need to extend when there are two years left on his current deal and there is no discount. What is so hard to get about that?

You have absolutely no idea as to the details of why this went down now, so to brush it off like, "psh, they could have just re-signed him later" as if that's a given is ridiculous (or that they maybe wouldn't have had to pay him MORE later; and yeah, don't act all stunned and incredulous about that idea, you fat babies out there who know who you are).

Or maybe Seattle continues to be terrible like they have the majority of his career, and after 2 more years of that he says [expletive] it, I'll take 5/120 from the Yankees over staying in this stinkwagon.

Or maybe an elite free agent starting pitcher entering his age 29 season might just command something more than a 5 year commitment?

Greinke got 6/147. And he's no Felix.

How does one get the last word on a message board unless they can lock the thread?

By boring everyone else into submission.

No reason for you to give away your strategies.

That reminds me of an incident at a chess tournament a few years ago. Would you like to hear about it?

just saw that bourn signed for 4/48. i would've given him that without thinking twice. actually probably would've gone to around 4/60. nice deal for the tribe.

Kind of surprised there wasn't more of an uproar after the Bourn deal. I thought a few weeks ago everyone was hoping to sign him. Considering the money he got, it seems like a pretty big win for the Indians.

It's not a bad deal, but this team needs more offense, not more speed and outfield defense. Not sure if Bourn would have helped this team much.
