To elaborate on my "[expletive] you." That's an ok deal, but it's a troubling sign about how many seasons we're going to punt.

I tend to think, as of now, that 2015 is probably the most realistic year to begin to make a push.

I doubt even the great Theo survives 2 more full seasons of horrible, bottom-feeder baseball.

This team MUST compete.

While I think we'll likely be awful in 2013, almost decent in 2014 and really good in 2015 abd beyond, why do you think they must compete now? They're taking advantage of a starved fanbase thats extremely loyal. This couldn't be done in New York or Boston, but I think we'll stay above 2.5 mill attendance no matter what. It's not like we've got some rich tradition of winning. In the end, whether we win 65 or 76 games next year, is inconsequential.

I didn't say we must compete now. He's talking about 2 more entire seasons of horror. That's a pretty long time to wait, for any fan base. Certainly plenty enough time for the bloom to come off the rose for Theo Epstein.

I just think 2015 to "begin to make a push" will try too many people's patience, even at Wrigley. It's got to at least start showing some signs, sooner than that.

I don't think that's Theo's thought process though, and I still have faith he'll get it done.

Considering some of the past successes of the Cubs in acquiring pitchers recovering from TJS, I like this move.

However, I'm curious if the Cubs intend to use him as a starter out of the gate, especially considering he only pitched a third of an inning at High A last season.

From ABTY

Whata day...anyway... Baker did not want an option (which is why he walked from Minnesota negotiations), strictly attempting to reestablish value and test market again next off season... There is an understanding between the organization and Baker that an extension will be addressed during the season if both satisfied at that point...

And, in regard to Liriano...

Sitting on a offer, although I've heard Baker has already contacted him in an unsolicited recruiting effort...

They said he should be stretched out to 5-6 innings by the start of the season. They will use him as a starter if/when he is ready to be pitching in games.
