I've felt Hochevar flierworthy for a few years noq, but he's at the point where he's been so bad for so long, that it would have to be a ST invite at the bare minumum. As far as I know, there hasn't been any injury involved. Just plain badness.

Yep. Hochevar is just bad. He does show signs of domination occasionally, but they are rare. He'll put up a line of 9 IP, 4 H, 1 R and then go four straight without getting out of the fifth. It's maddening. A change of scenery might help, though, and it's not like the Cubs are competing this year. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in for a ST invite and maybe slot him in as a #5 if he looks okay.

The Royals announced that they designated seven players for assignment to create 40-man roster space for players who would otherwise have been eligible for the Rule 5 draft. The Royals designated right-handers Vin Mazzaro and Chris Volstad, left-hander Ryan Verdugo, catcher Brayan Pena, infielder Clint Robinson and outfielder Derrick Robinson for assignment.

Reclamation project? :-"

LaPorta got DFA'd today, for what its worth.

Oof... LaPorta has been trash. Even if we had a gap in our roster he could fill as a stopgap I'm not even sure he'd be worth the pickup at this point

Out of the DFA'd guys, Valencia, LaPorta, and Cory Wade are somewhat interesting to me. Wade being the most interesting of the group. Could be a cheap solid reliever.

I honestly wouldn't mind LaPorta as a backup 1B/LF. See if he can regain SOMETHING.

At worst he'd be the RH version of Lahair. Cubs could use a RH bat off the bench

White Sox Re-Sign Dewayne Wise

By Mike Axisa [November 21, 2012 at 11:32am CST]

The White Sox have re-signed Dewayne Wise to a one-year contract worth $700K, the team announced. The outfielder has signed seven minor league contracts in the last three seasons

Just a friendly reminder that every team has their own Koyie Hill.

Let me know how that works out for them, Jim

@JimBowdenESPNxm:

Red Sox continue to improve the clubhouse with high make-up, character, leaders, winners...first David Ross, now Jonny Gomes both on 2yr dls

The Cubs signed outfielder Brian Bogusevic to a minor league contract, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports (on Twitter). The Cubs also signed infielder Alberto Gonzalez, right fielder Johermyn Chavez and catcher J.C. Boscan, according to Eddy.

Bogusevic is a former first rounder who was converted from the mound. Hit well last year but sucked this year and is 29. Chavez is just 23 and has decent power. The other two are minor league roster fodder.

In 2010 as a 21 year old in High A, Chavez posted a line of .315/.387/.577 with 31 HR, but then went south in a hurry in 2011 at AA to the tune of .216/.313/.360 and 13 HR. He rebounded somewhat last year with .232/.339/.386 in half a season in AA. Edited by Little Slide Rooter

Considering Bogusevic played a full season in the majors last year and hit a walkoff grand slam off Marmol in 2011, most of us should know who he is...

Most of us aren't miserbalists who obsess over such things.

The Grand Slam aside, the Cubs played the Astros enough times over the past 2 seasons to the point where everyone here should know who he is.

Astros players are like background characters on Lost. They always seem to change, but aren't important enough to keep track of who's who.
