I simply can't fathom the thought process that says, "Well, we could have Phil Jackson...but let's hire D'Antoni instead."

I'm guessing it's more along the lines of "We have a chance to get Phil back and people close say he's genuinely interested in coaching again, but if he decides in the end he's done with coaching and wants to do his Zen thing, D'antoni is our back up plan."

D'Antoni is a horrible back up plan for that roster.

Agreed. But I think if someone other than Jackson is brought in they will have an inmates running the asylum type situation going on. The coach will have little influence on playing style and their only role is going to be to make sure the chemistry stays okay and you don't have guys swinging on each other in the locker room.

Mike D'Antoni is your next Lakers head coach, source confirms to J.A. Adande and Mike Bresnahan (LA Times Lakers beat writer). Source claims Phil was "asking for the moon".

Well, you can count on the princeton offense going away. And he's certainly had success with the younger version of Steve Nash.

Tells me that Phil really didn't want to coach.

Yup. He didn't want the publice perception to be that he turned it dow but that the Lakers picked D'Antoni over him so he asked for ridiculous things in their initial talk/negotiations (possibly not going on all road trips, ownership stake, more power over acquisitions, and a very high salary).

This is probably just spin from Phil's PR team but supposedly Phil was stunned and his agent was flying out to LA today to negotiate a deal.

They also said Phil was willing to do as many road games as he did in his last tenure and understood that coaches don't make as much as they used to and was willing to accept less than what was reported. But still wanted more control over basketball decision and would have been interested in an ownership stake.

Let me preface this by saying Paul Pierce is a great basketball player, but good god he is a bitch. Every time you have the ball you aren't getting fouled Paul. If he was a wrestling doll his move thing would be the palms up in the air thing.

It's mentioned in the comments, but this guy is still my favorite fan-douche:

The big fat psychopath behind him is just a bonus.

The Bobcats are 6-4 this year.

The Bobcats were 7-59 last year.

Joey Crawford is such a tool.

WTF??? Is he taunting Kobe there or something? Stern should've suspended him (for like 10 games without pay) on the spot right there.

I don't think Selig has much authority here.
