It'd be nice if the Bulls could be healthy for the playoffs.

That's kind of tough when the coach redlines them for the entire regular season. If nothing else, I hope Thibodeau is learning a lesson from this.

What, keep strains of influenza out of the locker room? Make sure Derrick Rose always has a flat landing surface? This team was perfectly healthy in the 2011 playoffs.

What about the nagging injuries to Noah, Gibson, Deng, and Hinrich? Thibodeau is an amazing coach, but his one flaw is pushing too hard to win individual, and sometimes meaningless, games without seeing the big picture. And as for Derrick Rose... Thibodeau is the one who put him back into a game that he had no business being in.

Deng has the flu and so does Gibson. Noah's plantar fasciitis is pretty much going to be an issue if he plays basketball. Hinrich's injury isn't a result of overuse. Rose's injury wasn't either.

So, a Kirk Hinrich injury is going to be the key injury to end the season (if it happens). Wouldn't have guessed that one.

Heh, no kidding. Though the Bulls didn't do a terrible job on Deron Williams tonight.

I was at a bar with no sound for most of it so it was hard to tell, but it seemed like he was able to get to the paint a lot and set up plays. At least in the first half and if the defense is better in the first than the series is over.

What about them? Hinrich is old and breaks down on the regular and it's a miracle he's made it this far. Noah's injuries are mostly based out of a condition you can't really do anything about; you either can play or you can't. Gibson really hasn't anything unusual happen to him this year, and now he and Deng are sick.

I'm not sure how you can peeved at Thibs here. In no particular order, they were down Rose, Deng, and Hinrich in this game, and played signifigant time (in terms of value) without Gibson and Boozer. Their best scorer is Nate Robinson and their best perimiter defender is Jimmy Butler.

In other words, the fact they were still in position to win with less than a minute to play (and arguably got jobbed by refs who allowed Wallace to bear-hug Belinelli) is IMO - at least in part - due to Thibs coaching.

With the Rose injury, it's hard to tell if that wouldn't have happened anyways. It's not like he did something unusual to have it occur. I know it's a point that has been made plenty but because of that, I don't really blame him. Plus wasn't that only a 10 point lead or so with a couple of minutes left? That's not much in this league.

You know what though? Forget it, I don't really want to relive that awful memory.

This Warriors game is a refreshing watch after 3 hours of [expletive] basketball

Speaking of which, David Lee is playing with a torn hip flexor.

The team showed a lot of heart tonight though. That stuff doesn't mean too much in professional sports normally but half the team and all the key players (except Boozer) are either out or have issues and they almost pulled this thing out. It I take out all emotional ties, it's hard to be too upset with the effort, especially when you consider that the season would end next series anyways. Edited by bcl412

Aren't they like 9-16 now without him?

7-17. When you compare that to their 48-40 record without Rose, you have to wonder why people didn't build up the MVP case for Kirk

You can try to keep the injury from flaring up by watching his minutes in regular season games. I'm not trying to say that all of these injuries are preventable, and obviously there is nothing a coach can do about players getting the flu, but there are things he can do in the regular season to try to maximize the team's health going into the playoffs. If that comes at the expense of a playoff seed or two, so be it. Ultimately it wouldn't have mattered much this year, but I just want Thibodeau to learn to pick his battles and know when to occasionally concede a game for the greater good.

That's not PF works; you can play practically nonstop for multiple games and be fine and then play 10 minutes one night and be in agony. It just flares up when it flares up.

I'm very surprised that Williams wouldn't (or couldn't) take over this ame and put the Bulls away.

Butler has been quite the revelation this season.

He'll make a nice chip for Minni in the upcoming Love deal.

Jimmy Butler on how sick veterans Luol Deng and Taj Gibson look "They look the same way they do every day. Lu is dark skinned, Taj is bald"

Ha!

If you asked me to name the best Bulls coaches of all time it would be hard not to put Thibs #1. I know that's a crazy thing to say with Phil's 6 titles but Thibs is a wizard with the way he gets the most out of his players.

If this were LeBron, the hate and mocking would be deafening. I can't even begin to imagine; it would make The Decision look like a fart in the wind.

If this were Jay Cutler, this city would have run him out on a rail. [expletive], the city and national media practically did, despite the fact that he was actually injured.

This city disowned Sammy Sosa for leaving a game he wasn't even playing in early. Dave Kaplan spent 2005-2010 crucifying Aramis Ramirez for occasionally staring at home runs and not busting balls down the 1B line every once in a while. He's been ripping Starlin and has already had the foresight to lay the groundwork for ripping Jorge Soler in the future.

I cannot process how Rose quitting on the season is being tolerated.

I get the impression that some of it has to do with him being a local boy so you don't want to question someone who is "Chicago Tough". But from the media's perspective, I assume you don't want to alienate Rose and his RP brother to the point where you have limited access, interviews, etc.

And since we're on the topic of Rose, is there a huge difference between Cutler and Rose's "body language"? Neither shows a ton of emotion, but yet Cutler gets eviscerated for not showing emotion and Rose gets a pass?

The whole thing is confusing.

I don't think it's been tolerated, especially if they lose tonight or especially if they somehow win and play Miami and the national circus that follows.

Rose's image has been permanently scarred, IMO as it should be.

I don't think it's been permanently scarred. If LeBron can recover from the Decision backlash, Rose can certainly recover from the backlash he's received this year. More than likely, we'll forget about this whole quagmire in two seasons, if not by next January.

But seriously, if the Bulls and Rose announced that they're going to approach the season as if Rose wasn't coming back, expectations would have been severely tempered and him returning would have been considered gravy. However, they went ahead with the stupid "#TheReturn" horsecrap, which put Rose in a really bad spot in the event that he didn't return.

The part that I find really confusing is that they went ahead with the return shenanigan and it appears that all along, Rose had no intention of coming back this year. I can't even comprehend how dumb that is on his part- you're shooting commercials that illustrate that you're coming back, and coming back soon, even though you have no intention of playing this season. Pretty disappointing, if true.

What I mean by scarred is not that it'll be never forgiven but never forgotten, probably similar to Pippen's 1.8 seconds.

The Bulls screwed up as you said but Rose hasn't helped matters by not addressing the media and having the Bulls answer all questions related to him with shrugged shoulders.

They kept showing Rose last night and he seemed to have this Ron Artest-like blank stare every time.
