Happy Power Ranking Day!

We've got a fun crazy one to start with today....

I don't get where the Eagles apologist comes up with that. Philly is lucky to be 3-2 and he says "they don't deserve better than 3-2." The Bears are a bit unsteady right now, but I have absolutely no doubt they are better than the Eagles, not to mention the rest of the always overrated NFC East.

I don't get the bizarre sudden Steelers love. Two point home win over a hugely overvalued Eagles team? Definitely top 10 material, because that bye week probably counts as a win too for them.

It's hardly sudden. Pittsburgh has a built in love/respect based on years of solid performance.

The Bears are going to be 3rd in the FO DVOA ratings later today, behind San Fran and Houston. NFC North has 3 of the top 7 teams in DVOA.

That Yahoo dude knows that even if the defense didn't score the Bears would have won 27-3 right?

According to Terry Boers, the Bears are talking to Lovie about an extension. The Bears are discussing a 2 year extension (added onto the one year still left), and Lovie wants 3 years.

Not sure how far into the discussions they are, could be preliminary.

Win the division and then talk about it.

Then you have to pay more. Do it now, maybe get a discount.

Lots of bad coaches out there. Lovie's at least decent.

I don't think they'd have to pay that much more. Going into this season it was playoffs or bust. They fully expected to have to pay up for Lovie if they did well. Now let's wait and see if they actually do well. I see no reason to sign anything today. I assume any talks were about what will they be expecting if/when they actually do accomplish something this year.

It's probably one of those things that will take a while, and magically break down if the Bears were to collapse. But apparently Emery really likes Lovie. According to Boers.

Is Lovie the longest tenured coach in the NFL other than Belichick?

Andy Reid

Lovie is same as Coughlin I believe.

Everyone forgets Marvin Lewis.

Full rankings here.

Bears currently sitting at just over 82% to make the playoffs. The chances of them getting the #1 seed is almost nothing, though, because Atlanta's schedule from here on out is so criminally easy. They have just one above average team left on the schedule (Giants at home week 15).

EDIT: Even more criminally easy is Denver's remaining schedule, which features zero above average teams. They've already played Atlanta, Houston and New England, though, so they're 2-3.

EDIT 2: For comparison, the Bears have six games remaining against above average teams this year (@SF, HOU, GB, @MIN, MIN, SEA) and another three against slightly below average teams (DET, @DET, @ARI)

I wouldn't worry about ATL getting the #1 seed. They love leaving the playoffs early.

Was looking at the DVOA and was surprised to see the Bears offense at 17th in the league. Despite the struggles at times, I thought it'd be better than that because I don't remember seeing an offense quite this good in years. Then I looked at their rankings each year into the 90s and l learned that the Bears haven't ranked higher than 17th in the league in offensive efficiency since 1995. Here is their annual ranking the last 17 seasons:

12: 17

11: 30

10: 28

09: 28

08: 22

07: 30

06: 20

05: 28

04: 32

03: 30

02: 28

01: 18

00: 23

99: 18

98: 17

97: 25

96: 18

95: 3

i extend lovie now, absolutely. he is a culture-builder and he's built one in chicago maybe unrivaled in the NFL. the team has an identity and pride that maybe only the ravens and the patriots equal or exceed. what's more is he's now reloaded a little bit with younger players, they get plays out of every single defensive player on a weekly basis. that's really amazing.

you live with some stupid challenges because lovie is a top 5 coach in the NFL.

He gets the most out of these guys, but they've been barely above average for years now. I see no reason to jump the gun. It's not like they are at risk of losing the guy. He is not in high demand around the league and is already under contract through next year. An extension now is pointless.
