BYE and Game 6 - Detroit Lions @ BEARS - 10/22 MNF 7:30

Yeah, those are some of the worst power rankings ever. The worst part is that you will never get the 30 minutes of your life back that you spent making them, and I won't get the 30 seconds back that I spend reading it.

Rofl...something tells me those 30 seconds weren't gonna be all that awesome anyway.

Less of a waste of time than the 30 minutes he took writing up that post.

Philly is interesting because they look like crap a lot of the time, but they've also played a really tough schedule so far and are still 3-3. OK barely winning in Cleveland looked bad, but then they beat Baltimore, lost to an Arizona team that was playing really well at the beginning of the year, beat the Giants who as you know I think highly of, and then lost 2 very close games in Pittsburgh and against Detroit.

Philly is not a top ten team. Arizona "looking good at the time they played" is meaningless because Arizona isn't good. And they lost to them. They lost to a mediocre Pitt team and a mediocre Detroit team. They barely beat Baltimore and it was at home. And Baltimore isn't as good as you rated them either.

Apparently you didn't read the hastily made part. I don't think anyone has ever spent more than 5 minutes doing a power rankings ever. Except maybe Peter King. I could see him spending hours determining who is worthy enough to make his Fine Fifteen.

It'll be interesting to see if the Bears end up ahead of the 49ers in DVOA this week... they were 14% behind them before yesterday. Only .8% behind the Texans.

Will also be interesting to see where GB ends up. They were 6th and 7% behind the Bears (ATL & NE in between).

According to Aaron Schatz, the top four and 10 of the top 15 in DVOA are in the NFC. Also, the top team is neither Atlanta, Chicago, Green Bay, nor San Fran, so I can only assume the Giants will be #1 this week.

Damn those SOS quirks

He also mentioned that the top 7 (as of right now) is a combined 24-16, with three of them having three losses a piece. Assuming NYG (4-2) are #1, that makes four teams totalling 11 losses, leaving five losses for the remaining three teams. Since none have more than two losses, that leave two 2-loss teams and a 1-loss team. Which means either the Bears or Texans fell completely out of the top 7 and Atlanta isn't in there either.

Assuming the 49ers are one of the other top 7, I'll run with the assumption that the top 7 looks something like NYG, SF, CHI, GB, NE, SEA, DEN.

Jahvid Best - RB - Lions

Lions coach Jim Schwartz refused to update Jahvid Best's (concussions) status at Monday's press conference.

Schwartz claimed he's "really not in the loop when it comes to the decision" before saying Best's doctors are "still in the talking stage." The Lions treat injury information like the Manhattan Project, but it's hard to believe they'd remain so publicly noncommittal on Best's status if they were getting good news. Best is eligible to come off the PUP list this week.

Yahoo just delivers with these power rankings week after week....

Today's crazy comes not from the rankings themselves (which is certainly not as bad as last week), and instead comes from the Packers snippet...

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/nfl-power-rankings-seahawks-packers-rising-steelers-bengals-072519858--nfl.html

8. Green Bay Packers (3-3)

Last week: 13

If we can consider the Aaron Rodgers touchdown orgy against the Texans an official resurrection, we can then look ahead for the Pack. The next four are against St. Louis, Jacksonville, Arizona and Detroit, with a bye week mixed in there. A record of 7-3 seems, if not probable, certainly possible. And if that did come to pass, I'd be very surprised if they weren't at least tied for the lead in the NFC North at that point.

Wait what? The next four games for the Bears are Lions, Carolina, @Ten, Houston. Now granted, the Houston game could be a loss, but that's still only 7-2. If we can assume that the Pack are going to go 4-0 in those games, surely we can assume 3-1 for the Bears?

He counted the bye week for the Packers as well so it would actually be 5 weeks. SF is after HOU correct?

Ahh..good point. I was just counting out losses and should've realized the record didn't add up. Ok, less outrageous. I still think we win one of Houston-SF, but 7-3 isn't unimaginable. "Very surprised if they weren't at least tied" is overstating it though....:P

Apparently the Lions never expected a recovery, and just wanted to get him an extra year of service so he'd qualify for a pension.

Bears #3 overall still, now behind NYG and GB

http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff2012

#1 defense, #3 special teams, #23 offense

Please, please, please, please let the bye week give the offense an opportunity to gel.

I didn't have a lot of high hopes for the offense early in the season, combining the weak line with the new OC/system. But if this group can get to above average this team has a real shot at being special.

Yep. I expect them to improve as the season goes on. Hopefully that'll happen and nobody gets hurt or too banged up so the defense can continue to play at a really high level right around time for the playoffs.
