Game 2 - BEARS @ Green Bay Packers - 7:20 PM Thurs

I'm sure Lovie has a say in personnel decisions, but is he in the draft-day warroom? Its an honest question, I dont know that he would be. Every coverage of a draft warroom that I see, I have yet to see a coach in there. its all scouts, GM's, etc.

I've seen the exact opposite. HC is in every draft room. I remember specifically this year, Pete Carroll, Belichick, etc.

if its the case, then clearly he needs to be HC and demand olinemen.

Chicago sports fans are great at overhyping our own teams.

And tearing them down excessively nearly as fast.

That is what I'm saying. It's at the point to where if the GM says you, you get loud and say YES.

let's just get ireland to trade us jake long for a bunch of late picks or something. he knows he's getting fired anyway.

Probably have to pay pretty good to get Long. It's obvious we're desperate.

I don't think our 1st next year gets Jake Long, nor do I think Irwland is in trouble. He's got full reign to turn that roster over and start from scratch, which is what he's doing. A GM in trouble isn't trading Marshall, Davis, and starting a rookie QB, if he's job scared.

He does if he's really dumb.

http://rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1314/dolphins-offense

Citing a friend of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, the Miami Herald reports GM Jeff Ireland will be in "serious trouble" if the team "bombs" in 2012.

The Dolphins are on their way after Sunday's 20-point loss to the Texans. Per the Herald, Ross does not have "blind faith" in Ireland and would be willing to fire him if things go south. Another friend of Ross said Ireland would likely not survive if the Dolphins went 5-11 this season. As the Dolphins continue to pile up losses, expect fire-the-GM talk to become louder and louder. Ireland did an incredibly poor job of surrounding rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill with talent

Wow, he may truly be a numbskull then. Carry on with trying to get Jake Long from them.

This was my favorite part

Ogunleye used examples of Super Bowl winning quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as guys who may get on teammates but aren’t over the top.

I honestly wionder if either of those 2 have been sacked in their entire careers as much as Jay has been since he's been a Bear?

Obviously we don't know what was said so we don't know how far Cutler went, but Manning has had his share of confrontations. In 2004 for example, Wayne shoved him at the end of a close game after a shouting match between the two. The next year they were playing the Rams on MNF and Manning went on a tirade against Jeff Saturday (Tarik Glenn had to step in and tell Manning to go sit down) and he forgot until after that he was wearing a microphone for the whole world to hear. He also screamed at Donald Brown loud enough one time that the overhead microphone picked it up during a play. Manning was always a perfectionist who expected everyone else to be to. It's laughable to put him as an example like that.

Cutler probably shouldn't visibly rip one of his linemen like he did, but it sure would be hard to keep your composure when it is blatantly obvious to Cutler and everyone else watching that these guys are not doing the jobs they are getting paid to do. It's one thing if the team just sucks and nothing can fix how bad they are. It's another when your QB is running for his life on every play. And until you find yourself on your back with 275 pound DE's laying on top of you over and over again, it's really hard to sit there and judge Cutler's verbal assault on Webb.

It was a crappy game. Little went right on the offensive side of the ball, and hopefully they figure out a way to fix this problem sooner rather than later.

I think Jay's blowup at Webb was more trying to motivate him. That's what I would gauge about the "nudge". He was pissed, but I'm willing to bet he wasn't belittling Webb as people seem to be implying. Webb would have beat his ass if he was being disrespectful. I will admit, it does make Jay look bad that he didn't blow up at Marshall or Bennett for the dropped TD and caused INT, though. Of course, Webb has a 3 year history of getting Cutler nailed, but Webb kinda seems like more of an easy target than anything else since he didn't blow up at the WRs. Cutler was actually seen smiling with Marshall right after the dropped TD. This is not a gripe on Cutler at all, but it seems like a double standard from him.

marshalls screw up meant a fg. Bennetts meant a int. Webbs could get Cutler killed.

its a sliding continuum im sure, but its still not all equal

First off, hyperbole. Cutler won't die at the hands of Clay Matthews Jr. Secondly, Webb's sack allowed was the least impactful of the 3 plays in question. Marshall's took 4 points off the board. Bennett catches that ball and the Bears have a good shot at 3 points (woulda been over midfield after the catch). It's a lot easier for Brandon Marshall to catch an open pass and Earl Bennett to come back for the football than it is for Webb to block Clay Matthews. It's not all equal, but neither were the talent levels. Why pick on the worst player on the field when he has a bad play, but don't hold the best player accountable?

because Webb does it CONTINUALLY and Marshall is a good bet not to. And I'm not certain that Bennett didn't get an earful at some point. In fact, I thought he did.

Good stuff. Dave Kaplan was railing on Cutler a few

Minutes ago for yelling at Webb and kept saying "ask yourself this: would Peyton manning yell at his lineman like that?". I almost called in and read your post on the radio but I didn't want to pop my talk radio cherry talking to Dave Kaplan.

Also his reasoning for why it was wrong was that a bunch of players spoke out against it. He said something like "when a bunch of players speak out about something like this, you are clearly in the wrong". Umm Dave...the last time a bunch of players came out against Cutlers actions it was them yelling at him for "quitting the NFC championship game". Later we learn he tore his MCL. We're they right in that instance? Dave Kaplan, who you crappin?

The problem with ripping on Webb is that it's not really his fault he is the starting LT for the Chicago Bears. He's probably doing his best to protect his QB, but his best just isn't good enough.

I'm willing to bet Gabe Carimi will be our starting LT next year.

Why not next Sunday? Put Williams at RT.

I don't know about switching Carimi to LT but I'd definitely insert Williams at tackle and bench Webb. I'd have done that at halftime Thursday. Also think it's time to play Spencer at his primary position of center and either move Garza or preferably bench him too (E. Williams and Louis can play guard).

Tice isn't afraid to bench linemen, so maybe. I guess giving Webb one more shot. But no one stood out in the preseason so I guess Tice thinks Williams couldn't be better. Let's see if Jay's shoulder knock fired him up!

I know he can be hard to ignore, but it's worth the effort.

The fact that J'Marcus Webb won the LT job (by a pretty healthy margin in my eyes) should be enough to tell you guys that Chris Williams on the field isn't going to help matters. Jonathan Scott, who also isn't that good, is a better option to take over LT in the future if Webb continues to falter. He's been a spot starter several times over the last 3 years and at least doesn't get completely blown by when he's out there.

No, none of the LT options (I'm not sold on Carimi at LT) are good options. But I have no problem benching Webb at this point and trying Carimi or Williams. Webb has been unacceptably bad.
