Oh my. That is so awesome.

Also, I don't think it can be stressed enough that Vogebach - while clearly fat - is NOT unathletic. This is from several scouts that have seen him in person. He's basically a white Prince Fielder (maybe a touch less athletic). He's fine at first and is not predestined to only a DH. Plus, he's lost 30 lbs since high school. I'm not ruling put the possibility of him trimming another 20ish lbs and being acceptable enough LF given his bat.

I've actually thought of that comparison in body type. Not just Babe Ruth, but the general old timey power hitter who had the look of an amateur soft ball player.

Do I look like an amateur softball player?

Yeah, he's a lot smaller than that now. He's always going to have Matt Stairs' body type.

Good comparison. I definitely see him looking like Stairs and Kruk.

Daytona postponed.

This is way more annoying now that I actually care about Daytona.

Overall this year, Vogelbach is hitting .345 with a .411 OBP and .745 slugging percentage in 40 games. He has more extra-base hits (34) than strikeouts (29), drawing 19 walks for good measure.

That kind of rounded profile is what he's looking for.

"I try to pride myself on being a complete hitter, not just a power hitter," he said. "I want to hit for average, limit strikeouts as much as I can, get walks, see pitches and get in hitter's counts. If I do that, the homers will come. I don't want to be that guy that hits 30 homers and hits .220."

Another bit on Vogelbach, this one from Sickels:

Vogelbach isn't just a slugger: he's a legitimately complete hitter. He has good pure hitting skills, including repeatable swing mechanics that provide easy power, plus a good eye for the strike zone. His maximal projection would be something like Prince Fielder.

Johnson gave up a run and 3 hits in the first. 2 of the hits were flares. One strikeout on a sick curve in the dirt.

And he'll have no problem holding runners. Great pick-off move to get an out.

I'm hoping Sveum can come up with some genius shift that allows Vogelbach and Rizzo to both basically play first base. Something like this

It can't be worse than having Adam Dunn playing outfield.
