If one claims that slow baserunning negates offensive production in Vitters case

being a poor baserunner mitigates the value of any baseball player, not just third basemen currently not in the major leagues.

I don't know about anyone else, but if you told me that Vitters would be an average starting thirdbaseman, I would be very happy.

for the life of me, I don't know why ANYONE wouldn't be.

Has anybody indicated they would not be very happy?

Yeah, that's why I posted that, of course it could be Kyle trying to start an argument based on nothing anyone actually said.

I'm basing it off of Kyle's comment st the bottom of the last page.

There's a difference between Kyle's comment, "average at best" and Theo's statement of "if you told me he would be."

Average at best suggests the likely outcome is below average, with a potential for garbage. If somebody could theoretically guarantee you Vitters would be average, you'd take it because that's a good thing that many people have doubted Vitters would become.

I think Vitters can be just as good as Pablo Sandoval in the majors.

Call me super optimistic, but I see a .290 hitter who will OPS at about 870.

The defense I don't know. And the base running I don't care.

sandoval was already raking in the majors at 21/22. His A+ and AA numbers dwarfed Vitters.

Sandoval's pretty good. He's a .307 career hitter and doesn't have an .870 OPS for his career, though he has been (much) better than that in 2 of his 4 full season and is almost there this year.

I don't know about Vitters consistently being able to hit .290 and he doesn't quite have Sandoval's power. If Vitters hits .290, I'd imagine his OPS would be somewhere about .830-.840 at best....which is acceptable.

There are 3 qualified 3B that have an OPS above .870. Vitters has a career minor league line of .282/.326/.452/.777.

Even as good as he's been this year, he still barely has an ISOP of .200. I don't expect it to get much higher than that in the majors. Best case, IMO would be .290/.340/.500 in his prime.

Vitters has struggled every time he has been promoted. In his repeat he has improved substantially in every instance, not necessarily great numbers, but decent considering age and league. Even this year he started off slow at Iowa but has been good after April. If he can remain at 3B, I don't see any reason why he can't be above average at the position down the road (especially if he continues to improve his walk rate). I don't think he will be a star but a solid contributor at a club-friendly price into his prime.

Vitters = Joe Randa... take it as you wish as a glass half empty/half full debate

I think he will hit for more power than Randa did.
