At what point does Vitters become a legitimate prospect again? Or has that ship sailed?

Means like most scouting services have written him off, as far as being a top 100 prospect.

this question has been answered a lot lately. it's really hard to say that the ship has sailed on a 22-year old hitting very very well in AAA. he likely won't make it back into anyone's top 100 simply because he HAS been written off, but i believe that he's easily a top 100 prospect, maybe even top 50 at this point.

I don't see why it matters whether he is a top 100 prospect or not. The bottom line is he now looks like a player that can help the major league Cubs, something I couldn't have said at this time last year.

Vitters is sniffing Top 5 in PCL for doubles after tonight. He was already tied for 7th. Hard to say it's just the PCL when he's hitting better than his (typically many years older) peers, particularly since he's playing in Iowa and not the more hitter friendly parks in the West.

I highly doubt Vitters baserunning is that far below average of other power hitting 3Bers that it's a huge liability. How many hundredths of a of a point of a win share would that effect?

This. I also don't recall ever hearing anything particularly negative about his baserunning anyway.

Some have maintained that he's been a legit prospect all along.

only if you completely ignore fielding and baserunning altogether

He's a fringe-average defender on the good side of the defensive spectrum.

you're simply not being intellectually honest if you believe that to be true

Which part? The fringe average or that 3b is on the good side of the defensive spectrum?

You are wrong and I am right on both counts, but I'm curious which part you are so sure of yourself on.

jesus, you're obnoxiously transparent

have we seen anybody yet (aside from a recreational part-time self-avowed scout) who's suggested he can regularly be average at 3B? hell, Sveum just recently bashed his present defensive abilities

as for the baserunning, he's widely agreed to be a slow-footed runner and his speed scores are always lacking, and his tendency to post low BABIPs despite a fairly GB-heavy batted ball profile supports this as well

it's just that he has so many bad qualities to chip away at a lot of the value he gave you from his XBH's, to where he's just not that intriguing

but if he's boosting his stock, i love the idea that we might be able to get some value for him in a trade now; i'm just not suffering the same Vittered Wife Syndrome some of you guys are, where i still get false hope over him

Sorry, unless he's wildly and recklessly running into outs, I just can't buy into the idea that being a little slow on the basepaths significantly erodes the offensive positives of a power hitting 3rd baseman. Maybe if I could see it quantified some way, but I'm not going to just take it as face value. Doesn't pass the smell test. Edited by Elrhino

people are coming full circle on the player evaluation thing. soon they will be all hot and bothered over BA/RISP again.

Who knew Dusty was so ahead of his time.
